Job Title: Athletic Trainer Department: Athletics Supervisor: Head Athletic Trainer FLSA Classification: Exempt Schedule: Regular, 12 mo., FT, M-F 8am-5pm IPEDS Classification: 29 CUPA: 469110 Job Summary: The Athletic Trainer will provide medical care, supervision, and coverage to intercollegiate varsity student-athletes.

The Athletic Trainer will report to the Head Athletic Trainer and assist with administrative and daily athletic training room tasks.

The individual may be required to work without supervision or assistance, and must be able to work on their own.

The Athletic Trainer will demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality medical care and to the philosophy and the goals of Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) and the EMU Athletics Department.

Duties/Responsibilities: * Consistent collaboration and communication with coaches, other support personnel, Strength & Conditioning Coaches, other athletics trainers, student-athletes, parents/guardians, team physician, and other medical professionals.

* Perform injury prevention, education, evaluation, and administer rehabilitation programs to student athletes.

* Assist with evaluation, treatment, and education of Concussions.

* Assist with education and supervision of EMU Work Study and local college Athletic Training Education Programs students.

* Maintain daily injury documentation and record keeping.

* Provide onsite coverage for practices and games for EMU intercollegiate teams, as determined by the Head Athletic Trainer in conjunction with NCAA and EMU coverage guidelines.

* Assist with reviewing student-athlete physicals for intercollegiate sport participation.

* Assist with daily tasks in the athletic training room.

* Assist with EMU Athletic Training Policy development and implementation.

* Assist with Emergency Action Plan development, education, and implementation.

* Attend staff and department meetings.

* Perform additional work-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: * Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding athletic training and healthcare.

* Ability to organize and maintain manual and computerized filing systems.

* Experience with Electronic Medical/Health Record Systems.

* Ability to organize and exhibit attention to detail.

* Good memory skills for recalling dates, people, events, and records in order to retrieve information for reports and files.

* Ability to set goals, prioritize and organize job tasks and workload in order to meet deadlines.

* Interpersonal skills for assisting students, potential recruits, staff, faculty, and other visitors.

* Ability to use a PC and software such as, Windows, Microsoft Office, and Google.

* Ability to operate commonly used office equipment such as a copy machine, fax, phone, etc.

* Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with a wide variety of constituents.

* Ability to work outside of normal scheduled hours, including evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or related field, and a minimum of 3 years of experience in intercollegiate athletic training position, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Must be a Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer and must have and maintain a current CPR certification that meets BOC standards.

Must also meet requirements to obtain and maintain a Virginia State License for Athletic Training.

Master's degree and experience in a higher education environment is preferred.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel.

The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise and oversee work study students and graduate students.
