Senior R&D Chemist (Onsite)

The primary role of the Senior R&D Formulation and Process Chemist is to accelerate the product development program for the materials protection and paints & coatings business lines. In this role, you will be responsible for IP data generation, product development, formulation, performance, and application testing. Additional duties include production process optimization, trouble shooting, material qualifications, quality control and customer support. This position is in Alpharetta, GA and requires you to be onsite at the lab.

Essential Job Functions:

Demonstrates scientific/technical expertise at project level for complex chemistry problems. Responsible for the design and implementation of development plans to achieve defined milestones and deliver results.

Provides technical guidance in scientific area of expertise and leading professionals and technicians to accelerate development programs. Optimizes development workflows to deliver reproducible results and robust conclusions.

Responsible for new formulation and development work, development and implementation of procedures and processes in dispersion chemistry, formulation technology, and chemical/process engineering.

Generates new/improved product Laboratory Process Packages (LPP) and support in scale up for commercial production.

Mentors research associates to assist with efforts in product development stage gates.

Maintains and develops expertise in various laboratory testing methods and techniques, including regular development of novel methods for diverse application areas.

Validates and tests early-stage testing for new product ideas to understand their relevance for end-use applications.

Writes and reviews complex reports to ensure they are based on good science and able to make quality presentations to internal and external parties.

As a project lead, works with interdisciplinary teams to advance technologies into commercialization phase. Works with external and internal R&D functions to assist with achieving project goals, as required.

Anticipates, evaluates, and implements trends and innovations in expertise by collaboration with external partners, following scientific literature.

Qualifications & Experience:

PhD (Organic Chemistry), Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry or Polymer Science.

3-6 years technical experience with a demonstrated track record of scientific excellence and technical problem solving.

1-4 years as a researcher in material protection and/or paints and coatings.

Skilled in organic chemistry, product development, formulation, performance, and application testing.

Technical expertise product development processes, validation, endpoint measurements, and statistical analysis.

Entrepreneurial, ethical, and detail oriented.

Outstanding research and analytical skills, technical and scientific expertise with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to transit from concept-to-results independently.

Excellent time management skills, effective with multitasking, capable of prioritization, and adept ability to improvise work plans while maintaining efficiency.

Business Travel: approximately 0-5%, or as needed to conferences, training sessions, or with external R&D partners.
