Job Description

Under general supervision of the Director, the Trauma Coordinator organizes and maintains an efficient clinical/trauma delivery system consistent with the HMH vision and mission statement. Assists the Director with the promotion of quality trauma care within HMH and in the context of a state/regional trauma care system. Assists the Director in the delivery of clinical care to Emergency Room patients, capitalizing on the variable and specialized skills and attributes of the care providers. Participates in the regional emergency management (disaster) response committee. Develops and administers educational opportunities for staff in the Emergency department. Coordinates and monitors clinical competencies, including serving as preceptor to new staff members. Assists the Nurse Director in the development and evaluation of nursing and support staff in the delivery of clinical care.

.Ensures compliance with local, state, and national standards for Trauma Center designation.

Aims to achieve successful outcomes for all care and programs associated with the trauma program and leads internal/external program initiatives.

Coordinates and evaluates Trauma Program activities, monitors outcomes and overall performance.

Manages the trauma registry, including collecting data, coding, scoring, and developing processes for the validation of data.

Partners with clinicians and patients related to trauma care through the continuum.

Provides appropriate feedback based on data review and observation.

Develops patient teaching materials and staff training materials.

Coordinates clinical education for hospital, EMS providers, and community.

Functions as liaison and role model in working with clinical staff and other disciplines.

Serves as a preceptor and clinical resource for staff.

Assists the Director in assuring consistent delivery of quality clinical care.

Actively participates in the PI/QI process for the department and hospital.

Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

Provides oversight in the appropriate use of resources.

Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.

Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.

Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing.

Experience: Three years of specialty clinical experience and prior charge nurse experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas, or immediately eligible. Basic Life Support certification required within 30 days of employment, before patient care is administered independently. Advanced Cardiac Life Support & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (or ENPC) certifications within 90 days of employment. TNCC within 18 months of employment. CEN preferred and ENA membership preferred.

Required Skills: Must have strong analytical, data management, organizational and time management skills.
