Airswift is working with one of our major clients to find an Environmental Engineer to join their team on a 18-month contract in Calgary.

The Environment Engineer is a member of the Process Technology team, reporting to the Process Technology Team Lead. This is a key position on the team, who will be providing subject matter expertise and deep technical support for environmental initiatives across company's asset to maintain our license to operate. The Environment Engineer needs to have a process engineering background and must know a few key technology areas like gas treating (sour gas processing), high temperature firing, VOCs handling, end to end water chemistry, waste incineration and waste emissions management including fugitives. The Environment Process Technologist is expected to demonstrate knowledge to skill level understanding of environmental risk areas to:

appropriate calculations to meet environmental standards taking into account the operating and design envelopes and ensure the alternative methods to assess environmental performance of key equipment are made ready and tested.

and design the tracking and operationalize the reporting tools to meet requirements in air and water permits. This includes being able to interpret key technical data with appropriate dimensions/units and perform appropriate conversions for air and water pollutants as expected by regulators..

and reviewing monthly, quarterly and yearly reports to the government in collaboration with the environment and instrumentation team and providing technical assurance to the same.

in data interpretation, validation and reconciliation, including being able to look at plant process data and complete data validation by ensuring that any erroneous data is filtered out in reporting and replaced with an appropriate engineering estimate. This also means ability to visualize and depict complex technical environmental dilemmas into quantifiable forward paths and set foundation for engagement with various stakeholders.

compliance management systems are established and implemented to meet applicable environmental and company regulatory requirements, this with KPIs, auditable data records and sustainable reporting standards.

business drivers to develop and deliver high quality, fit for purpose mitigations/improvements in addressing company's environmental risk areas, in a few of the following areas: GHG, wastewater/water quality, air quality, pollutant dispersion, estimation, measurement, waste control and/or related impact assessment processes. This includes short and medium terms strategies as well as masterplans if needed.

with GHG and energy management focal company's GHG emission inventory tracking and reporting and provide technical guidance to company's existing environmental programs, with deep involvement in the newer methods of fugitive calculations and BC regulations.

and progress environment opportunities and improvements across the company asset using the appropriate work processes – MTO, MOC, Project Delivery, ME, etc., have a front end engineering mindset with ability to create business cases for technical improvements.

with internal and external stakeholders, e.g., Operations, Business Group, Corporate Relations, Regulators, NGOs, and community) to deliver environment opportunities and risk management.

recommendations on the application of relevant internal standards, technical aspects of legislative requirements, and external standards & policy; partner with Corporate Relations as company's Regulatory & Permitting focal point on current and emerging regulations and policies.

in external verification for Compliance & Assurance on Environment related standards, e.g., ISO 14001 and GHG emissions reporting. Advise on appropriate sampling standards if needed and support the laboratory in developing the suitable test methods as per the regulations.

Role may be tailored depending on applicant’s skills, development areas, and business need.

You will use your expertise to:

on technological services to meet company's business principles and objectives, including environmental performance, monitoring, testing and process optimizations.

and nurture a close working relationship with other Technical and engineering SMEs through networking and execution of studies and projects.

tools & keep abreast of new technologies and drive case for change that will improve environmental performance.

and optimize effective liaison with process technology, environmental, digital, operations and engineering teams. Closely interact with the laboratory to ensure methods, limits and sample schedule provide the correct feedback for supporting production, engineering and various process test-runs.

state-of-the-art methods and tools are available for the required internal and external environmental reporting.

To be successful, you will have:

Eng. in relevant engineering (e.g., Chemical, Process, or Environmental).

least 10 years of relevant technical experience, preferably at or associated with an Operating Site.

facilitation skills and the ability to influence others.

to manage multiple projects with multi-disciplined teams.

will be for a candidate with knowledge of Carbon Intensity, Life Cycle Analysis, GHG emissions control technology, assessment and design use.

appreciation of Gas business processes and principles and experience in a Major Gas/LNG Project is an advantage.

to contribute to decision support and assurance as well as carrying out hands on technical evaluations.

with internal and external interfaces with strong spoken and written communication skills.

This role requires that you:

position will be initially resourced for 18 months post which a decision will be made for permanent position.

role will be based in Calgary, BC. Travel to Kitimat once a month for 1 week is expected.

working pattern 10 hrs/day 5 days a week, not always Saturday and Sunday off.

overtime prior to approval by company team leader.

a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, a background check and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified drugs.
