Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, the middleware administrator is responsible for the configuration, deployment, optimization, and upkeep of CIHI’s software middleware infrastructure including Informatica and AWS data services etc. Working within the Technology Services department, this position will work with stakeholders throughout the ITS Division to design, plan, implement and support CIHI’s technical architecture.

Duties and Responsibilities

Designs, plans, implements, and maintains CIHI’s technical architecture including environments for development, staging and production activities using CIHI’s standard technologies (e.g. Informatica, AWS data services etc.).

Leads Informatica administrative activities including but not limited to: planning ETL hardware and software license activities, supporting server/application configuration, deployment and execution in Middleware environments, ensuring the resolution of ETL related technical issues in a time-sensitive/priority sensitive manner.

Installs and configures middleware on-prem software such as Informatica; setup and optimize AWS data services for ETL related jobs.

Plans and executes configuration changes, patch management and day-to-day administration/monitoring of the middleware infrastructure.

Supports CIHI’s Information Security Management System (ISMS) through the implementation, management and/or monitoring of required Information Security controls.

Participates in key ISMS processes as required, including but not limited to Risk Management, Audit and Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting and Record Management.

Works directly with other Architecture staff to solve on-going middleware architecture and software problems, performs troubleshooting, performance, and security tuning activities of the technical environments.

Researches, drafts, develops, and implements policies, procedures, and best practices for application deployment, change control and strategic recommendations relating to the resolution of middleware support issues.

Participates on project teams to ensure application development activities adhere to proper deployment, installation, and configuration of middleware software.

Participates in the architectural design of systems.

Supervises, provides technical advice and guidance and coaching to project/program staff assigned to middleware support activities; and provides input on performance evaluations, monitors workload and allocates work as appropriate.

Knowledge and Experience

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline.

Five (5) years’ experience in a senior technical analytical position responsible for administration of complex Middleware Server environments.

ITIL v3 fundamentals certification is an asset.

Strong knowledge and experience with ETL tools, such as Informatica, AWS data services, Ab Initio or Oracle Warehouse Builder.

Knowledge of AWS cloud, experiences with AWS services such as EMR, Glue, S3, Lake formation, IAM etc.

Knowledge of Oracle, RedShift and MySQL RDBMS, network protocols and firewalls.

Demonstrated expertise in Linux Shell Scripting (BASH/KSH, SED, AWK).

Experience with system hardening and demonstrated knowledge of security best practices and techniques.

Experience in for Data Warehouse/ETL technical design concepts, as well as a familiarity with Dimensional Modelling technique is a definite asset.

Experience with data warehouse performance tuning of very large databases in an Oracle environment is an asset.

Exposure or experience with CIHI data holdings or other healthcare data holdings is a definite asset

Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both written and oral with the ability to communicate effectively with users, management, and technical staff.

Fluency in both official languages is an asset.
