POSITION: HVN –Assistant Airport Operations Manager - Airside

REPORTS TO: Airport Operations Manager

LOCATION: New Haven, CT

AIRPORT: Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN)

SUMMARY

The Assistant Operations Manager position supports the Airport Operations Manager in the safe and efficient operation of the airport. Supervises and administers the functions and activities of both airside and landside operations, with an emphasis on airside. Ensures that the airport maintains operational adherence to the provisions of FAR Part 139 and TSR 1542 in the absence of the Airport Operations Manager. Requires the ability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including but not limited to:

Responsible for assisting with the day-to-day management of airport operations staff.

Perform shift duty relief for Operations Shift Supervisors, performing all essential duties and responsibilities while assigned to a shift.

Maintain compliance with the Airport Certification Manual, Airport Emergency Plan, Airport Security Plan, and all other regulatory obligations as they pertain to HVN.

Perform Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting duties on assigned shifts.

Provide snow removal coordination and/or oversight.

Responsible for the development of construction safety plans and monitoring of construction to ensure compliance.

Responsible for providing support and oversight for airport training programs, supporting the Regulatory Compliance Manager and Airport Training Specialist.

Provide daily managerial assistance in landside facilities and functions, including parking and shuttle bus operations, security, customer service, and community relations.

Establish and maintain communication with airport stakeholders on operational matters.

Support the Operations Manager with employee scheduling and payroll duties.

Assist with inspecting work for accuracy and progress.

Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor on work orders, snow removal, and all safety-related matters that pertain to airport maintenance.

Assess/analyze the cost of major repair work in conjunction with the Airport Operations Manager.

Ensure compliance with Company and client policies and procedures.

Assist the Airport Operations Manager with developing and administering employee appraisals and personnel developmental plans.

Work collaboratively with all departments and the corporate office, as directed.

All other duties assigned by Airport Management.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management or other applicable degree program required.

A minimum of five (5) years preferred experience with progressive responsibility in supervisory and managerial duties. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of degree preference at the discretion of the Airport Manager.

Must be capable of performing duties independently in fast-paced and complex environments.

Must be experienced in the performance of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting, airport emergency planning, and snow removal.

Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and sustain a valid driver’s license in the person’s state of residence and maintain a driving record compatible with the Company’s insurance company’s criteria.

Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, per operational need.

Maintain skills and qualifications to perform the essential duties of the Assistant Airport Operations Manager position.

Ability to perform the duties of this classification to Company standards, which include, but is not limited to passing, to the satisfaction of the Company, initial and periodic Company tests to ensure the initial and ongoing maintenance of a required level of proficiency.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Acquires all licenses or certificates required by regulatory agencies.

Meet the required training criteria under FAR Part 139.

Able to successfully complete ARFF training and duties. Employee will be required to undergo regularly scheduled medical evaluations to ensure they are capable of safely utilizing Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

Completion of 40-Hour ARFF School or the ability to complete within six (6) months from the date of hire.

Meet or exceed required security training and performance criteria as mandated in the Airport Security Plan.

Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certifications 100, 200, and 700

Must possess AAAE Airport Certified employee (ACE) Operations Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from the date of hire.

Ability to operate heavy snow removal equipment.

Must maintain First Aid/CPR and AED certifications.

The Assistant Airport Operations Manager – Airside will be required to maintain the necessary clearances, certifications, licenses, and training associated with assigned duties.
