About the Job
We’re shipping more and more robots and seeing new uses for our products emerge every day! We need an experienced Electrical Engineer to help design new products as well as maintain our existing ones.
The Electrical Development team at OTTO is responsible for design of new and existing AMRs for warehouse environments. We cover the entire design process from initial concept design and cost forecasting through to detailed design, verification and validation, production ramp up, and sustaining.
You will be responsible for various aspects of new product development, including schematic capture, wire harness design, PCB design,and functional safety. You will have to work closely with our mechanical design teams, hardware test teams, and firmware development teams to find the best solutions to realize our product requirements.
Your primary responsibilities will be:
Developing AMR system architectures
Motor/Drivetrain selection and architecture
Robot schematic development
Troubleshooting and testing hardware
Low speed digital/analog circuit design
Cable assembly design
PCB design
Working with cross functional teams to realize product level requirements
Writing technical reports detailing part test/qualification plans and results
Additional responsibilities include:
Evaluating how we can apply lessons-learned from other industries to our designs.
Writing service bulletins/procedures for our customer service teams
Supporting the evaluation of existing and new suppliers.
Certification and compliance reviews.
Mentoring and assisting with supervision of Jr. staff, technicians and co-op students.
Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years experience electrical systems design (schematics, PCB, wire harnesses)
Experience with motor control
Comfortable working closely within a dynamic multidisciplinary project team
University degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechatronics engineering or equivalent
A good understanding of many aspects of electronic design
Nice to Have:
Experience with motor/drivetrain selection
Experience working with motor controllers
Experience with Altium, Vesys/Capital, Creo and/or Solidworks
Experience with Safety Controller integration
Experience with sensor selection and integration (proximity, LIDAR, cameras etc)
Knowledge of communications architectures including CAN bus, ethernet, USB, I2C and RS422/485.
Power electronics & SMPS design experience
Experience with DFx (DFM, DFA, DFT)
Full-spectrum Product Development Life Cycle experience
Experience in functional safety design
Experience getting products through compliance testing
Experience with PLM systems
