Position: Math Teacher, Adult Basic Education

Reports to: Deputy Director, Education Center
Location: Education Center
Status/Hours: Part-time
Compensation: $40 - $42 per hour
Program Description
The Education Center provides adult education services to the Brooklyn community. We serve students with GED preparation classes, ESL classes, and vocational training. In addition, the Education Center operates a Family Welcome Center (FWC) in which we provide case management & wrap-around services, workforce development programming, and regular community workshops & events. Many of our clients speak Spanish, Arabic, or Mandarin as their first language.
Position Description
The Math Teacher, Adult Basic Education teaches math to adult students who are preparing for the GED exam.
Responsibilities
Facilitate classes in math using differentiated instruction
Curriculum and lesson design
Administer pre-tests and post-tests using TABE
Maintain attendance records
Attend professional development training and seek opportunities to further develop a teaching practice

Qualifications Required
Bachelors in education or a related field
Two years teaching experience (preferably in an adult education setting)
Language skills in Spanish, Arabic, and/or Chinese are preferred
Strong computer skills
Strong time management and organizational skills
Strong problem solving skills and the ability to be resourceful
Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and work as part of a team
Ability communicate effectively in the face of stress, feedback, or change
