Overview:

Nationwide Children's Hospital Research IT Research & Innovation Department (IT R&I) defines an Intern as a student or a recent graduate undergoing supervised practical training in their designated field of study.

We are looking for a current student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or a recent graduate to join the IT R&I division. The intern will have opportunities to engage in intriguing research and innovative projects leveraging data, analytics, technology and user experience design. The intern will be part of a multidisciplinary team that collaboratively brainstorms and develops impactful solutions to accelerate knowledge discovery and improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities:

Orientation

It is expected that all Interns will participate in the Nationwide Children's Hospital Employee Orientation program.

Conduct

It is expected that all Interns will abide by Nationwide Children's Hospital Policies and procedures.

Education

The Intern must be currently seeking or has recently received a degree in a math, statistics, engineering, computer science, operations research, healthcare, or other pertinent fields.

Intern roles are temporary in nature so it is the expectation that the individual will inquire and continue to learn about new opportunities within and outside of the hospital.

Teamwork, Collaboration, and Professionaism

Works with other IS staff in functional or cross-functional teams to meet goals, objectives, and responsibilities.

Maintains a professional demeanor in conducting job duties and accepts accountability for their performance.

Fosters a team atmosphere within IS and other Hospital departments by interacting with others in an honest and straightforward manner, listening to and valuing the opinions and ideas of others, sharing knowledge, and helping others to accomplish goals.

Develops and maintains technical and professional skill levels.

Job Specific

Participate in project requirement gathering and documentation.

Participate in workflow and job shadowing as required.

Participate in project design, development, testing, and documentation.

Participate in literature and market reviews as needed.

Present project progress and report orally or in written format as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent GED Required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Programming, data analysis, graphic design and/or other skills will be required based on the specific intern position.

Candidate must be currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree program related to the sought after skills for the intern or is a recent graduate.

Education curriculum must be provided by a certified or licensed educational institution.

Exceptional interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.

Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typing on computer

Answering phones

Miscellaneous paperwork associated with research and OSU faculty appointment

Acting as liaison

Xeroxing

Filing

Kneeling / reaching

Finger dexterity

Talking / hearing / seeing

Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes

Pushing a cart with weight 50-100 pounds for 5-10 minutes
