We are seeking to hire a versatile Machinist at our Bolingbrook l location!

The Business Unit & Position Summary:

Crane Nuclear is a Business Unit within the Process Flow Technologies Group of Crane Corporation. a US multi-national company that specializes in highly engineered industrial products in niche markets. Crane Nuclear provides valves, valve parts, valve testing products, and valve maintenance/testing services to domestic and international commercial nuclear power customers. Crane Nuclear features recognized valve brands and is an industry leader in valve diagnostic technology and valve maintenance/testing scope-based process-driven services.

The CNC Machinist is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up, and machining material using computer numerical control (CNC) equipment; maintaining safety and quality standards; and maintaining records, equipment, and supplies. The CNC Machinist must perform all duties and work per the Crane Nuclear Inc. Quality Assurance Manual and Procedures. Standard hours for this position are Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Principle Responsibilities:

Set up and operate with various materials per production schedule, verify and operate controls, set offsets, deburr, and inspect quality parts for conformance to requirements.

Edit programs for CNC equipment using GIBBS CAM 12 off-line programming: use “G and M” code formats as necessary.

Study and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of workpieces, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.

Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning facing, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting, sharpening, and replacing worn tools adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

Detect equipment malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machines and adjust the machine within capabilities, and as required to ensure safe and quality operation. Reports all machine malfunctions to the Operations Manager.

Inspect finished work product.

Communicate with management, production control, quality, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.

Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.

Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Document actions by completing production and quality logs.

Update and maintain Visual Management on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

Problem-solving as necessary, finding root causes and implementing countermeasure improvement actions.

Participate in Crane Business System activities to drive or support continuous improvement.

Qualifications / Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required

Knowledge in the use of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments should include but not be limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators, and scales

Minimum 3 years experience in set-up and operation of CNC machinery, multi-axis lathes and 4-axis horizontal milling, vertical milling machines

Ability to read blueprint drawings and interpret geometric tolerance

Must possess a positive attitude for success in a team-driven environment

Must be adaptable to a changing production schedule, and competing demands and is comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

Experience working in a Lean organization is a plus

Must be able to work independently while effectively communicating with manufacturing support areas

Ability to work in a team environment
