Essential Functions of a Multi-Modality Tech

Responsible for performing diagnostic testing. MRI Technologists must be able to operate closed and open scanners. Quality images must be obtained using proper positioning and techniques. Technologists must effectively and efficiently complete all MRI and MRA exams.

Interpret physician instructions, select software options and imaging parameters when adjusting an MRI machine, view images during exams and report anomalies to radiologists and document.

Properly send images to PACs and archive images. Print CDs. Make sure comparison images are available for reading physicians. Computer skills include working effectively in PACS and RIS systems.

Must be able to explain MRI procedures to patients. Prepare and position patients for MR procedures. Maintain sensitivity to the physical and psychological needs of patients. Monitor and continually communicate with patients throughout the MR exam. Ensure patient safety and comfort. Must screen patients for any precautions or contraindications prior to the patient entering the magnetic field and thoroughly research all implants, devices, etc.

Possess knowledge of patient cross-sectional anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of medical terminology and scientific principles as applied to MR imaging.

Communicate with MRI service engineers and physicists. Assist with troubleshooting magnet issues.

Perform daily QA for each magnet. Maintain patient log. Enter clinical information, history, etc. for each patient. Follow COVID policies and procedures.

MRI Technologists are required to have the ability to be mobile throughout the day. And they are required to maneuver patients onto the exam table and position them for imaging (this includes patients who are wheelchair and litter-bound). Must possess manual dexterity to manipulate table straps and coils and operate MRI machine controls.

Perform injections as needed. Demonstrate competency in venipuncture skills in administering contrast agent during MRI exams. Responsible to determine patient safety related to injections of contrast media. Required to obtain and check patient lab work to avoid NSF complications. Be prepared for any contrast media interactions/emergencies.

Work with Center Director to document incidents which occur at the facility.

Comply with all facility safety policies and procedures. Enforce magnetic field safety for MRI patients, operator, and visitors. Employee must be cleared of any implants or devices that would be contraindicated to work in an MRI environment.

MRI Technologist must be flexible to work extended hours, alternate shifts, etc. as needed. Must be able to accommodate STATs.

Maintain MRI equipment. Clean and disinfect all equipment after each use. Ensure all medical equipment is in good working condition. And report any issues.

Assist with center and front office tasks as needed.

Education and Experience

ARRT Certification

State licensure in diagnostic imaging.

BLS Certification

CT Experience, preferred
