Fleet Diesel Mechanic

Payrate: $25 to $35 an / hr.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Fleet Diessel Mechanic will perform scheduled preventative maintenance and necessary repairs to automobiles, trucks (light and heavy), trailers, vans, forklifts as directed by the transportation supervisor and lead mechanic. This individual also disassembles and overhauls motors, transmissions, clutches, rear ends, and electrical systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES of the Fleet Diesel Mechanic
Maintain and repair fleet equipment and perform preventative maintenance (e.g. oil changes, tire rotations) on company vehicles according to established guidelines.
Diagnose vehicle failures and disassemble, repair, and reassemble parts as necessary.
Adhere to all company policies, standards, and procedures (OSHA, DOT, AIB, EPA and all Federal/State/Local laws and regulatory compliance standards.
Completes Federal annual inspection reports, preventative maintenance records, service repair order forms and other required paperwork according to established standards.
Maintains cleanliness and assists in the organization of the fleet garage. (e.g. cleans up spills and disposes of used parts properly).
Perform assigned duties in a safe and productive manner.
Follows the director of the Transportation Supervisor and Fleet Maintenance lead mechanic.
Wear all the required personal protective equipment.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance, and works overtime as needed to meet workload demands. Performs related duties as required.
Responsible for Compliance with all Clients GMPs & Safety Policies.
Candidate will be required to have his/her own set of tractor/trailer tools and toolbox.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES of the Fleet Diesel Mechanic
EDUCATION:
Minimum High School or equivalent
Preferred-Vocational/Technical or equivalent degree; 2 years/associate degree in diesel mechanics.
CDL Class A is a plus but not required
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair equipment with accuracy and speed; ability to create effective working relationships with employees.
Ability to coordinate programs, prepare reports and maintain accurate records.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
Experience working under limited supervision
Experience maintaining manufacturing standards (up to date with the latest technology, experience with electronics, etc.)
Experience driving trucks requiring a Class A or B CDL preferred (moving trucks in and out of shop)
Experience with heavy truck repair (tractor-trailers, brakes, tires, engines)
Experience with light truck repair (trucks, vans, support vehicles)
Experience using shop tools (engine hoists, changing tires, small tools)
Experience with diesel engines (certified on diesel engines, warranty certification from manufacturers)
Experience with preventative maintenance programs and activities (following schedules for oil changes, documentation of work completed, tracking miles and usage hours, identifying, and repairing defects)
Experience with gas engine repair
Knowledge of hydraulic and air brake systems

Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 lbs. Lifting while turning side to side is sometimes necessary.

Position sometimes requires extended hours including evenings and/or weekends
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment, specifically the garage areas.
Standing most of the workday is required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions.
The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
