Job Description Summary
The Head Softball Coach will plan, organize, direct and evaluate all phases of a highly competitive intercollegiate softball program at the University of La Verne in accordance and compliance with the NCAA, SCIAC and the University of La Verne's policies and regulations; understanding the role of Division III athletics in the educational process and while recruiting quality student-athletes.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to organize and operate an effective college athletic program while motivating and
mentoring student-athletes. Includes (but not limited to) experience with: budget
management, team travel logistics and expenditures, overall inventory (i.e. equipment,
uniforms, balls, bats, etc.), season competition scheduling, fundraising, student-athlete
academic progress monitoring, alumni relations, and rules compliance.
Ability to stay abreast of, and incorporate into daily operations, current and developing
trends (video, voice, data, and computing technologies).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and personnel
simultaneously.
Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and
positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to
race, gender, sexual preference/identity, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives.
Enthusiasm with the ability to thrive in an atmosphere of constant change and high pressure.
Ability to travel and recruit student athletes.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Ability to proficiently operate a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word,
Excel, etc.).
Ability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs, utilizing proper
grammar and punctuation.
Valid Drivers License.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.
1 year of experience in supervising and training employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling.

Duties
Specific Duties
Provide s leadership for the University of La Verne softball program. Establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student athletes' skills and teamwork. Create, develop, execute and maintain a culture of trust, through mentorship and social development, demonstrating the tenants of a successful collegiate softball program (including but not limited to work ethic, passion, time management, team -first mentality, cultural diversity and camaraderie). Actively analyze team performance on a daily basis, and adjust strategies as needed. Communicate expectations, praise and corrective feedback in a clear and constructive manner. Hold all softball staff and student -athletes accountable to all softball team and culture rules and regulations, as well as those of the NCAA, SCIAC, University utilizing established run les and procedures.

Specific Duties
Responsible for the organization and operation of an effective collegiate women's softball program. Includes (but not limited to) maintaining NCAA eligibility for all student -athletes; developing the traditional and non -traditional season schedules and co ordinating all related team travel arrangements; developing daily practice plans, including the preparation and creation of team strategy for individual games and tournaments; conducting all on -field coaching for the women's softball program during traditional and non -traditional intercollegiate segments; effectively scouting opponents to maximize game -day successes; work with other head coaches as needed on details for practices, utilization of facilities, home and away contest logistics, etc. Oversees the administration of the team budget; establishes and allocates budgeted expenditures for various aspects of team operations (i.e. travel, equipment, recruiting, marketing, etc.); authorizes the expenditure of funds for team operations; maintains and updates a sufficient inventory of equipment and materials needed to operate a successful collegiate softball program; sourcing and securing vendors - and purchasing equipment and uniforms specific to softball needs and requirements; monitors expenditures to ensure that they adhere to proscribed limitations; ensures that all expenditures are properly documented and in compliance with university and NCAA guidelines; prepares expenditure reports as requested.

Specific Duties
Responsible for the overall recruitment requirements and activities leading to the successful recruitment of perspective softball student -athletes to the University of La Verne. Develop a det ailed recruitment plan that will allow the program to be in a position of competitive leadership in the SCIAC. Responsibilities include (but not limited to) coordinating mailings, telephone calls, and email exchanges. On campus visits, digital and in -person n correspondences, and off -campus talent evaluation. Work effectively with athletic administrative staff and the Office of Admissions to satisfy roster size, recruitment and retention outcomes. Annual recruitment goal of 4 -5 student -athletes who enroll an d participate in the sport of softball at the University of La Verne.

Specific Duties
Year -long tracking of the academic success of the student -athletes associated with the women's softball program. Develops and oversees the administration of policies and procedures with respect to academic expectations for team members; communicates with academic advising staff regarding athlete academic performance; meets with athletes to review course load issues, degree requirements, course selections, etc.; counsels athletes on performance issues, study skills, and techniques for academic success. Develops, maintains, and executes a pre-season and out-of-season season training program, in collaboration with the Strength and Conditioning staff.

Specific Duties
Responsible for fundraising as necessary to supplement and enhance the funding of the women's softball program. Plans and develops team promotional strategies for fundraising, recruitment, public relations, and other marketing activities; attends promotional events, community activities, and fundraisers; prepares promotional material for distribution (e.g. team background, participant bios, letters of interest, etc.); prepares and delivers speeches and presentations at local and community groups, fundraisers, athletic events, etc.

Responsible for staff and team compliance of NCAA, SCIAC, and University of La Verne rules and regulations. Selects, supervises and mentors assistant coaches for the women's softball program. Assigns responsibilities to and supervise all work of assistant coaches.
Performs other duties, summer duties, special projects and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Responsible for the development and maintenance of alumni and community outreach in relation to the softball program. Publicizes the program in collaboration with Sports Information Office and University Relations. Establishes positive communication relationships media and public agencies.
