Description:

Manage the engineering department which is responsible for product development, production development, and hands-on field support. This role is responsible for achieving the engineering department’s overarching goals and its short-term tactical objectives. This role involves significant project management, mechanical/hydraulic/(simple)control design, design oversight, and the ability to support and train field personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (the incumbent may be asked to perform any combination of the following functions):

1. Lead and manage all employees within the engineering department.

2. Lead design reviews, provide design oversight, trouble shoot FAT/commissioning issues.

3. Train and coach engineering staff. Grow the capabilities of the engineering team and never become a bottle neck.

4. Responsible for completing the tactical goals and design milestones as established by the VP of Operations, in conjunction with the engineering manage.

5. In conjunction with the VP of Operations, setup an efficient Solidworks environment, reducing the time required to process drawing creation and pdf/dxf. Strive for continuous improvement in terms of engineering efficiency.

6. Hold team members accountable for individual performance.

7. Participate in the design process:

a. Translate concepts or ideas into technical drawings and schematics using SolidWorks and Draftsight.

b. Oversee new product development, including creation of specifications and drawings for product including new product launch planning with the team to help ensure smooth product roll outs.

c. Create Owner’s Manuals for product, as per engineering and marketing requirements.

d. Support, and sometimes lead, the building of prototypes for both production tools and new products.

8. Provide hand-on support to shop floor, field, and customer personnel:

a. Provide remote and field support for the installation of new production equipment.

b. Provide remote support for production tooling issues (equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, etc.)

c. Provide remote support and in the field support to customer personnel in the installation and operation of new products, soliciting “voice of the customer” to be used in further product improvement.

9. Depending on product, participate in the creation of product costings.

10. Enforce Solidworks best practice across the organization.

11. Responsible and Champion for IWI’s Engineering Department’s Overarching Goals:

c. Fastest Design Cycle and Time to Market (for New Product Development)

12. All other duties as assigned by management.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

· P.Eng. certification considered an asset.

· Exceptional candidates will have strong project management background.

· Bachelor’s degree in technical or business-related field is preferred. Non-degreed candidates with proper training and experience may be considered.

· Summary Skill Requirements:

o Understands the function of process equipment and is familiar with technical concepts.

o Able to create and analyze basic engineering models and calculations with engineer assistance.

o Ability to create and analyze engineering models, engineering drawings, and calculations with engineer supervision.

o Able to modify or adapt applications such as Excel or databases to enhance data input and output.

o Soldiworks and Draftsight proficiency is a must.

Minimum of 5-8 years Engineering experience, preferably in manufacturing environment.

A willingness to learn and be cross-trained within IWI.
