About the role

Be a part of the regional corporate tax team located in Kuala Lumpur, managing tax compliance matters for internal and external requirements, and assisting in the implementation of strategic tax planning for the Group of Companies in Asia Pacific Region. Your key stakeholders in this role will include Financial Control teams, Compliance Controllers, Supply Chain, Procurement and Systems teams and 3rd party vendors and customers.

Key responsibilities

The Indirect Tax Analyst will be working with Kerry’s growing indirect tax team which is based in Kuala Lumpur. Kerry’s primary ERP system is SAP, with reporting from time to time from other systems and government portals. The indirect tax compliance work will either be done centrally or controlled centrally. Returns currently are mainly of a VAT/GST/Sales Tax nature.

Indirect tax is a transactional tax and in addition to preparing indirect tax returns, the indirect tax team works with other Kerry functions to ensure that the end-to-end business process is compliant and efficient, including these responsibilities:

Managing the corporate tax compliance function for Kerry entities in APAC region;

Coordinating and liaising with the Kerry entities for their internal reporting purposes;

Reviewing tax returns and tax disclosures in statutory accounts for Kerry entities in APAC region;

Dealing with revenue audits and managing the process with Kerry entities as well as the Head Office;

Assisting in implementing strategic tax planning across the region;

Assisting in merger and acquisition activities in the region

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Degree in Accounting/Finance with at least 3-5 years’ relevant indirect tax experience

Good knowledge of SAP (other ERP systems also relevant). Advanced MS Excel analysis skills needed (Pivot Tables, Vlookup etc.)

Regional experience of GST/VAT/ sales tax compliance gained in an MNC or Shared Services environment would be helpful.

Key Competencies

Service Delivery

Prepare to review stage periodic indirect tax returns (usually monthly)

Prepare or review GST/VAT / sales tax GL balance sheet account reconciliations and follow up on any open items (monthly)

Keep Turnover Reconciliation up to date (compare between income in financial statements and sales in indirect tax returns). Address/understand differences.

Organise the GST/VAT /sales tax payments and submit returns from the SSC (where possible)

Prepare a monthly GST/VAT/sales tax debtor report that corresponds with the VAT reconciliations

Support the Indirect tax Team Lead in relation to standardisation / documentation of processes and controls for Europe indirect tax

Ad hoc projects associated with indirect tax as needed e.g. audit preparation, process improvement, introduction of new systems e.g. new SAP deployments, acquisitions / disposals

Assign GST/VAT/sales tax rates to materials / products in master data workflow

Review new customer and vendor set ups in master data workflow.

First point of escalation from data stewards in relation to tax data.

Deal with AP workflows relating to vendor invoices.

Help to resolve transactional queries from other business functions and prevent avoidable issues for the future

Technology Enablement

Strong numerical skills with high level of accuracy

Organised work methodology and the ability to work to deadlines and generally complete tasks quickly and correctly

Openness to rotating periodically to the GST/VAT/sales tax compliance of different countries in the overall portfolio so that the indirect tax team is agile to meet business and governance needs.

Awareness of common way of working overall to the extent the different country legislations allow. Kerry has a One Way of Working policy.

Availability for international travel occasionally in relation to specific projects e.g. tax audit preparation or migration of new work to the SSC.

Ability to share knowledge knowledge and also learn new ways of working, both within indirect tax and when working with other functions.

Curious, solution-oriented mindset with an interest in identifying and developing process improvements

Confidence to work independently on defined projects in a supportive environment

Legal / Regulatory

Familiarity with indirect tax compliance in one or more countries is helpful, but other skills and experiences are also very relevant e.g. GL accounting or end-to-end processes where SAP is used.

Mindset to proactively help resolve system and end-to-end process issues and ensure knowledge is shared with stakeholders and colleagues

Language and communication

High level of English language proficiency (spoken and written) as this is Kerry's most widely used business language. Good written, read and spoken Mandarin is highly desirable.

Proficiency in one or more additional foreign language would be a significant advantage (in particular Malay / Indonesian, Thai, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Polish and other Eastern European languages).

Confident delivery of services, along with constructive and efficient interaction with Business Partners and Customer groups.

Ability to select and adapt the most effective means of communication for the situation and the stakeholder in order to achieve alignment.
