What you’ll be doing

Join the Alternate Solutions Group (ASG) as a Summer Analyst and make a real difference for our clients. Within CIBC Global Markets, the Alternate Solutions Group was launched in 2013 with a mandate to develop innovative and creative technology-driven capital markets solutions. This group is an unconventional capital markets organization that combines the innovative spirit and agility of a FinTech startup with the financial strength and strong governance protocol of a major financial institution. ASG has been recognized as a global leader in providing disruptive technological capital markets solutions in several product areas including Cross Border Payments, Dynamic Currency Conversion, Multi-currency pre-paid cards, Foreign Cash & Precious Metals Online and white labeling thereof. ASG’s client base stretches from some of the largest banks in the world, to corporates to CIBC’s retail clients.

We are hiring on the Multi-Currency Pricing (MCP) and Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) teams, two leading FX products in ASG. MCP and DCC are services that enable international cardholders to pay in their local currency in websites and Point-of-Sales terminals, respectively. These optional services provide foreign cardholders with the transparency of knowing exactly how much they will be debited.

You will operate in a fast-paced environment as part of a dynamic, hardworking, production-focused product team. Your key mandate will be to provide analytical and strategic support to the product team.

Important information

You are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in business, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) or related field with a demonstrated record of academic excellence (preferred minimum 3.6 GPA), with a graduation date no earlier than April 2025.

How you’ll succeed

Passion for financial markets – Demonstrate strong technical, quantitative, and analytical skills, with keen interest in the financial markets and proven record of academic success, teamwork and extracurricular involvement.

Reporting, analytics and research - Identify, analyze, and interpret patterns in complex data sets and provide recommendations on growth opportunities and business initiatives. Monitor, track and analyze client portfolio performance and economic factors, including routine reporting, to be able to respond to client requests and address anomalies. Conduct comprehensive research to assist in the identification and/or analysis of business trends and opportunities.

Client engagement – Investigate, analyze and resolve issues impacting clients with Analysts, Associates and Directors. Periodically presenting to clients (in English and French) to review product performance, technical projects, and value-adding initiatives.

Relationship building - Work closely with the distribution team to support sales cycle through the completion of client-facing presentations, analysis, and ad-hoc product expertise.

Product and process improvement - Seek concrete and practical ways to enhance our product and overall value-proposition to our clients. Understand and review our processes, identify areas for improvement, propose and execute productivity-enhancing solutions.

Who you are

You have demonstrated interest in Capital Markets. You’ve built a strong knowledge of Capital Markets, FinTech and the financial services industries which allows you to analyze complex issues and identify & develop innovative opportunities.

You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You're confident in your ability to communicate detailed information in an impactful way.

You’re digitally savvy. You are proficient in MS-office suite of tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), and are able to use them for financial modeling, presentations and technical project documentation. Knowledge in Python, VBA, Power Query and other data analysis tools is considered an asset. Experience with PowerBI is required.
