2024 Mill Valley Film Festival Hub Manager

Location: San Rafael, CA (15 minutes North of the Golden Gate Bridge)

Status: Full-Time, Salary, Seasonal, Hybrid/Remote, onsite starting 9/23/24

Dates: 9/1/24 through 10/12/24

Compensation: $1280/week

CAFILM supports its mission to celebrate film as art and education by presenting the annual Mill Valley Film Festival and DocLands Documentary Film Festival, exhibiting film year-round at the non-profit Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafael, CA and Sequoia Cinema in Mill Valley, CA, and building the next generation of filmmakers and film lovers through CFI Education. Founded in 1978, the Mill Valley Film Festival is a world-renowned 11-day event held every October, screening over 200 innovative US and international films for over 60,000 attendees. MVFF has a stellar reputation as a filmmakers' festival with a high-profile, prestigious, non-competitive environment celebrating the best in independent and world cinema in gorgeous Northern California.

About the Job:

The filmmaker lounge manager reports to the events manager and works within the Operations department. The position is responsible for the management and operational aspects of the Mill Valley Film Festival Hub.

Your Responsibilities:

Work with the Events and Guest Services departments to create, staff, and maintain an inviting food & beverage hospitality space for patrons, festival filmmakers, and other special guests (donors, sponsors, media, etc)

Schedule, train, and supervise volunteer staff

Create a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing lounge atmosphere, including arrangement of decor, lighting, music, and food/beverage stations

Arrange for daily general hub programming/activities for Festival patrons.

Work with Development department to fulfill sponsor and donor needs

Coordinate with food & beverage sponsors as directed by the events manager

Maintain an inviting, lively, and clean environment for permitted guests

Work with the Development department to ensure all related sponsor signage and other forms of activation are set up and displayed appropriately

Track food & beverage inventory on a daily basis

Supervise and manage volunteers for badge checking and tracking at the door

Report any food, beverage, personnel, or other lounge-related issues to the operations manager

Submit a detailed wrap report and participate in post-festival wrap meetings

Detailed, disciplined, and thorough. You have a professional appearance and demeanor with a great attitude.

Strong computer skills, with thorough knowledge of Excel, Word, FileMaker Pro, Google Apps

Grace under pressure; can do attitude

Strong managerial and leadership skills

Proven skill with driving deadlines

Excellent customer service, and public interaction skills

Ability to work within a budget prioritizing expenditures

Ability to manage time effectively and bring projects to completion despite conflicting deadlines

Calm under pressure, managing multiple tasks with competing deadlines.

Thrives working independently and on a team.

Must have own transportation, own smart-phone, able to work nights and weekends as necessary, and work through Labor Day weekend if needed.
