Construction Materials Engineering Technician

Requisition Number: 2024-1360-02A

S&ME is looking for Construction Materials Engineering Technicians of all experience levels to join our team in New Albany, Indiana. Whether you have no experience and would like to learn how to test construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, etc., for quality control and assurance on project sites or you have experience and would like to continue building your career in construction materials testing and special inspections, working on a variety of different projects.

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and integrity of construction projects. Your daily field testing and observations will guarantee compliance with industry standards and project specifications. From reviewing plans to documenting field activities, your contributions will be crucial in ensuring that structures are built correctly. While the job primarily involves outdoor work, your dedication will be rewarded with the satisfaction of seeing projects come to life.

Your Day-to-Day:

Review construction plans and specifications to ensure seamless alignment with on-site observations

Conduct as well as observe testing and inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards

Utilize advanced software like Metafield® to document reporting and testing results

Calibrate equipment to industry standards to ensure precision in testing processes

Conduct Special Inspection observations to enforce regulatory compliance and quality assurance on projects

Maintain open communication with stakeholders to foster trust and transparency, driving success of our projects

What You Bring:

You have a high school diploma/GED

You have 0-3+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials

You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language

You have the ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device

Compensation and technician level will be based on experience and industry certifications.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions

Walking over rough and uneven terrain

Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion

Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)

Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites

Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary

Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
