Ascension Parish School Board Job Description I.

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Helper JOB TYPE: 726, 732 POSITION REPORTS TO: Maintenance Foreman or Grounds Maintenance Foreman PAY GRADE: MNT-1 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt ASSIGNMENT PERIOD 260 days II.

SUMMARY OF POSITION'S PURPOSE Performs a wide variety of maintenance related activities as an assistant to carpenters, electricians, plumbers and painters.

III.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - 8th grade education or its equivalent.

B.

EXPERIENCE - 0 to 6 months of basic work experience C.

SKILLS - Basic knowledge of maintenance related activities.

D.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS - Must be physically capable of lifting in excess of 25 pounds on a continual basis.

This position requires some manual dexterity with close mental/visual attention and the ability to perform job functions in a standing position for a majority of the work day.

This position is exposed to environmental extremes on a daily basis.

This position also requires the ability to perform climbing activities.

IV.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Performs maintenance and repair functions under the direction of the appropriate skilled personnel.

These functions include, but are not limited to, floor preparation (stripping, waxing and buffing floors), cleaning windows/base boards and promptly removing graffiti from walls.

* Assists in the maintenance of equipment and inventories.

* Cleans the jobsite upon the completion of the activity.

* Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc.

Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.

* Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g.

expense management.

Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.

* Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.

Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.

* Performs other services as required.
