Axiom is seeking a Certified Calibration Technician to support the mission of the National Weather Service's Surface and Upper Air Division by overseeing and supporting the calibrations of current observational assets through the following roles:

Maintain and operate the Pressure Standards Laboratory.

Perform and monitor the calibrations of reference pressure standards in support of the ASOS, Upper Air, and VOS Programs, including the issuing of calibration certificates to ensure all assets conform to Program, National, and International Standards.

Perform the shipping and receiving for reference pressure standards to support the ASOS, Upper Air, and VOS Programs.

Assist in ensuring all laboratory assets for testing and calibration cycles are maintained and calibrated, either internally or externally, which includes assisting the laboratory technician, when necessary, in the tracking, shipping, and receiving of laboratory assets as part of their maintenance and calibration schedules.

Assist in evaluating reference sensors utilized in the Pressure Standards Laboratory, Hygrothermometry Laboratory, Wind Tunnel Laboratory, and the Environmental Chamber Laboratory.

Monitor and track all operational reference standards as they relate to the Pressure Standards Laboratory, which includes but is not limited to: tracking calibration events of assets, Tracking maintenance events of assets and ensuring all equipment is maintained properly.

Perform functions such as testing or calibrations associated within the designated laboratories to support Upper Air, ASOS, COOP, or VOS testing or calibration programs, as specified by the Quality Lead or Laboratory Manager.

Communicate with the customer to provide operational support of field reference pressure standards.

Assist in evaluating reference sensors or implementing new technology that will be utilized in the Pressure Standards Laboratory, Hygrothermometry Laboratory, Wind Tunnel Laboratory, and the Environmental Chamber Laboratory.

Prepare test plans and reports for special projects related to sensors and equipment, which includes but is not limited to international collaborative projects and new technology implementation.

Provides status updates weekly and monthly to the Quality Lead and the Quality Management Government Point of Contact on calibration activities.

Research new methods for the calibration cycles of working and primary standards to improve best practices and procedures.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have experience in calibration and electronics/component repair,

Must be well organized, and good at working independently when required.

Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. (Typically 30).

Certification as a Calibration Technician is a requirement in the position. It can be earned while on the job within 6 months.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication.

Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe PDF required.

Programming languages (Python and Visual Basic a plus).

Experience with Fluke COMPASS for Pressure and Gagepak a plus.

Education in meteorology/atmospheric science is a plus.
