Interconnection Engineer

About the Role:

A northeast-based client of mine is seeking a skilled and motivated Solar Interconnection Engineer to contribute to their mission of transforming America's energy landscape. As a Solar Interconnection Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless integration of solar energy systems into existing utility infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with internal teams to develop, track, and manage interconnection applications and engineering drawings for solar energy projects.

Conduct thorough research on utility infrastructure to identify optimal interconnection options for each project.

Coordinate with utilities' customer portal systems to ensure smooth communication and compliance throughout the interconnection process.

Assist in preparing incentive applications and materials for solar energy projects, staying abreast of relevant regulations and policies.

Provide technical expertise and support to both technical and non-technical teams on interconnection specifications and requirements.

Attend and actively participate in interconnection policy working groups and lobbyist meetings, keeping abreast of industry trends and developments.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Systems, Computer Science, I&C, Power Systems, or related field.

Strong understanding of electrical power concepts, power systems analysis, and utility-scale power systems.

Familiarity with solar and storage project electrical components, including batteries, inverters, and transformers.

Proficiency in interpreting and creating single-line diagrams and layouts for solar energy projects.

Knowledge of utility infrastructure and interconnection processes, with experience in navigating utility protocols and regulations.

Previous experience working in an electrical engineering company or electric utility, preferably in Distributed Energy Resource or Distributed Generation departments.

Proficiency in AutoCAD for editing and drafting site plans and one-line diagrams.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to diverse audiences.

3 years of experience in the solar energy industry or related field.
