Project Engineer

Our small, dynamic renewables development client is seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join their team in Richmond, VA. The candidate will work closely with their development team, environmental consultants and permitting specialists on renewable energy projects in the eastern US to support development of solar, storage and hybrid projects throughout their various stages of development. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to be involved in the various aspects of renewables project development.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and submit interconnections requests while coordinating with third-party consultants on those applications as needed for all projects

• Monitor ongoing interconnection requests and respond to additional informational requests from grid operators and utilities

• Assist in transmission analyses including preparing and managing interconnection cost estimates and timelines

• Develop permit-level, and potentially construction-level, site plans for any necessary permits using site design and layout software

• Coordinate with the development team to prepare RFP responses for offtake, and assist in submitting information requested by the applicable offtaker in a timely manner

• Prepare proposals and cost estimates for new opportunities including working with third party vendors to prepare construction and O&M cost estimates

• Interface with local municipal planning boards and federal/state agencies as needed

• If appropriately licensed, serve as Engineer of Record for assigned projects

Qualifications and Characteristics:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil or Electrical Engineering

• 5 or more years of engineering/land development/sitework experience (with preferably at least (2) years in solar, wind, and/or battery storage sites)

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Ability to work on multiple projects in multiple grid operators’ and utility jurisdictions simultaneously

• Experience working in Google Earth

• Responsive attitude when interacting with staff, peers, management, investors, interconnecting entities, and clients is essential

• A desire to learn and assist with creatively solving problems as a team

• Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D or MicroStation InRoads (preferred)

• Experience in AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary Analysis and/or HydroCAD software (preferred)

• Familiarity working with or managing deliverables in PSSE and PSCAD (preferred)

Position Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license

• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen & criminal background check

• Periodic travel may be required (all expenses reimbursed and will include a per diem for incidentals)

• Salary will be commensurate with experience and will offer excellent bonus opportunity for a motivated and successful candidate

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Qualified candidates that require sponsorship to work in the United States will be considered on a case-by-case basis

• This is an in-office, non-remote position. Candidate must be able to work in our Glen Allen, VA office.
