Principal Project Manager, Rail Vehicle Engineering

This role is onsite in Portland, Oregon. Candidate will ocassionally be required to travel internationally based on the client's needs.

Principal Project Manager, Vehicle Engineering

Responsibilities

Develop requirements, specifications, design criteria, engineering standards, and test procedures for rail vehicle systems and associated hardware under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer in Oregon.

Evaluate the feasibility, design, and reliability of electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and hardware for current and future rail vehicles.

Administer contracts related to procurement, installation, testing, and start-up of rail vehicles and associated systems, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and client criteria.

Coordinate with client engineers, staff, and consultants to ensure compatibility of designs.

Oversee contractor work to minimize impact on ongoing rail operations, including scheduling, inspections, progress reporting, and quality documentation.

Witness and approve testing of rail vehicle systems and equipment, assisting in troubleshooting as needed.

Collaborate with rail operations on vehicle improvement projects.

Perform engineering analyses, write technical reports, and provide recommendations.

Represent the client at interagency meetings as a technical expert and prepare materials and presentations as required.

Manage contract change processes, including cost estimates and negotiations.

Independently prepare technical reports, progress reports, special studies, and cost estimates.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Rail Vehicle, or Structural Engineering.

15 or more years of engineering experience with a focus on rail vehicle engineering, including extensive hands-on experience in design, evaluation, and troubleshooting.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Preferred Qualifications:

2 years of experience in transportation, rail or bus transit, aerospace, or automotive industries.

2 years of experience in large-scale projects/programs.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Certified Construction Manager (CCM).

Knowledge:

General engineering principles and practices.

Electrical and mechanical engineering fundamentals, standards, and codes.

Rail transit engineering practices, standards, and codes.

Organization, technical supervision, contract management, and scheduling.

Use of test equipment for light rail electrical systems.

Interpretation of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.

Utilization of engineering and business software applications.

Effective oral and written communication, including formal presentations.

Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Analysis and resolution of complex problems related to project management, design, and construction.

Implementation and improvement of divisional design criteria and standards.
