Study Buddies Connect (SBC), an ABC program, is a free virtual tutoring program serving students ages 5-18 living in East Harlem and the South Bronx. About the Program Associate Position
ABC seeks one fellow to assist the Study Buddies Connect (SBC) program, which offers intensive academic intervention to school-aged children struggling in a core subject. In this role, which combines family advocacy, tutoring, program development, and administrative duties, the associate will play a critical role in supporting the educational trajectories of vulnerable youth. After receiving training, the associate will assess children’s academic levels and develop individualized study plans that reflect a child’s learning needs tutors. The fellow will also interview, screen, and train new tutors, offering ongoing pedagogical support through regular check-ins. Finally, the associate will monitor attendance and collect student report cards; together, the team will analyze any data we collect to understand our programmatic impact and identify our children’s overall areas of strengths and weaknesses
Program Associate Duties:
Interview and screen new tutors; help with their onboarding and training process.
Tutor students one-on-one, especially during the initial onboarding process.
Assist in creating math curricula for SBC’s math pods program.
Serve as a family advocate, referring parents to other ABC resources when necessary.
Support with administrative work, such as attendance, emails, family and tutor check ins, newsletters, program development, and more.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required.
Bilingual English-Spanish is highly desired.
Strong aptitude for working with families and youth.
High degree of cultural sensitivity.
Strong understanding of K-8 mathematics and willingness to learn curriculum design.
Computer proficiency and comfort using technology.
Passion for ABC’s mission of serving the whole child through community-based programming and initiatives.
