Job Overview:

The Principal Instrumentation & Controls Eng is responsible for complex instrumentation & control systems engineering design, analysis and development of an assigned scope of work on a McDermott project. Work includes (but not limited to) conceptual studies, cost and planning studies, specification and philosophy development, instrument data sheet and calculation development, development of complex Integrated Control and Safety System (ICSS) deliverables and supervising vendor packages. Also, apply in-depth skills and broad knowledge of the industry to address complex problems and nonstandard situations for engineering, fabrication and construction.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Prepare the development of key project deliverables, including (but not limited to) the following:

Philosophies and Specifications

ICSS Architecture Design

Cause & Effect Diagrams

SIL Calculations

Complex Loop Descriptions

Vessel Level Sketches

Instrument Index, I/O List, Range, Alarm and Trip Summary (RATS)

Instrument Data Sheets

Instrument Calculations (i.e. Valves, Flowmeters, etc.)

RIE Building and Analyzer Shelter Layouts

P&ID Development

Participate in project reviews, including (but not limited to) the following:

P&ID Reviews

Model Reviews

Hazop/SIL/LOPA Reviews

Alarm Rationalization Reviews

Functional Safety Assessment (FSA)

Independent Design Reviews (IDR)

Development and support of vendor packages, including (but not limited to) the following:

Create, issue and manage requisition packages for instrumentation, analyzers, ICSS, machinery monitoring system and all other I&C related packages.

Perform and coordinate the review of supplier documents for I&C and non-I&C packages.

Participate in the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of ICSS equipment, analyzers, complex valves and mechanical packages.

Site support, including (but not limited to) the following:

Provide technical support to Construction personnel for I&C engineering related inquiries as needed.

Participate in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of ICSS equipment and analyzers.

Project development and coordination activities (when acting as the Lead Engineer), including (but not limited to) the following:

Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott’s end-product throughout engineering, fabrication or construction.

Become fully familiar with the project contract, scope of work, basis of design, specifications, schedule and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues.

Supervise and coordinate all activities associated with I&C engineers and designers.

Provide technical expertise to the I&C engineers and designers.

Lead the discipline team during project audits and design reviews.

Maintain close coordination with other discipline engineers and with the Client’s engineer.

Report to and coordinate with project engineering manager, project manager, and I&C department manager

Carefully evaluate, communicate and manage change with full awareness of project impact.

Ensure substantive communications are documented.

Act as the primary approver for all I&C related deliverables.

Assume responsibility for cost, schedule, progress, quantity, budget control and quality of project deliverables.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

Accredited engineering degree may be required by specific regions.

Typically, 15 years minimum of I&C engineering experience, including 3 years senior I&C engineer.

Working knowledge of the content and application of standards, codes and guidelines, including ISA, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ANSI and API

Proven project coordination and execution skills in delivery of completed project design deliverables.

Experience with the utilization of multiple office project execution (MOPEX)

Advanced experience with Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), InstruCalc, MS Office Suite including Excel and Word

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

Prefer BSEE, BSCE or BSME degree.

Prefer PE certificate of registration.

Prefer experience at site during construction and commissioning.
