Position Summary

Develops and implements the GIA Behavioral Health Program that will positively change how symptoms, health beliefs, attitudes and behaviors impact the treatment and experience of patients with chronic gastroenterology conditions.

*This is a Part-Time Position that could potentially see patients at both our Wausau and Stevens Point locations (Wausau being primary).

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care for adult patients, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and participate in the development of GIA's behavioral health care delivery model.

Develop GI specific protocols and define criteria for patient referral to behavioral health.

Provide outpatient psychological assessment, consultation and behavioral intervention services to adults living with chronic gastrointestinal diseases such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, celiac disease, motility disorders, functional GI disorders, esophageal disorders, fatty liver disease as well as disorders of weight and obesity via in-person and telehealth appointments.

Apply brain-gut psychotherapy across the range of digestive disorders.

Collaborates with providers and leadership to build and maintain a cohesive, patient-focused environment.

Maintains clinic schedule that maximizes patient access to appointment (including outreach locations) and is designed to meet productivity targets as defined by the clinic.

Provides in-service education for GIA staff, patient support groups, and community education forums. Assists in the development of patient education materials.

Maintains clinical and coding knowledge in an evolving healthcare environment.

Serves as a role model of customer service for patients, co-workers, and referring providers.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, with subspecialty training in Health Psychology.

Licensure/Certification

Current and valid Wisconsin Psychologist license.

Board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology

Experience

Preferred experience and/or training in Cognitive Behaviorial Therapy and Hypnotherapy.

Expertise in the provision of evidence-based treatments (such as CBT, MI, ACT, BA, biofeedback) for health-related depression, anxiety, and pain.

Competencies Required

Knowledge

Knowledge of psychological diagnostic and therapeutic principles, practices and techniques.

Advanced clinical knowledge of the GI system, pharmaceuticals, and GI related diagnostic testing (lab and radiology).

Knowledge of location, care, operation, and safety hazards of medical equipment, instruments and procedures to administer effective, safe patient care.

Knowledge of regulatory and licensing requirements, including documentation standards, coding, billing and appropriate use of medical terminology and abbreviations.

Skills

Possesses interpersonal, communication, and listening skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, and all staff members.

Proficient computer skills working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all forms of communication and correspondence.

Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making to achieve organizational objectives.

Abilities

Exhibits professionalism and sound judgment in all matters as a member of leadership in the organization.

Ability to practice integrity by showing an uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values.

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of personnel, fiscal, and health information.
