Job summary:

The Laundry Assistant is responsible for ensuring that an adequate supply of linen is on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents and that all personal clothing items be handled individually to assure proper processing for each fabric type.

Job duties:

Weighs and documents all personal laundry/linen according to resident area.

Uses appropriate load mixing techniques.

Labels resident belongings using iron-on labeling system whenever available.

Irons resident clothing and folds all linen according to departmental procedures.

Replenishes linen stock to HC area as required and as needed.

Completes required number of bedrolls during shift.

Identifies fabrics that require dry cleaning only.

Transports linen/laundry utilizing proper delivery methods (ex. carts covered, etc).

Collects laundry from all areas whenever necessary

Distributes laundry/linen to appropriate resident /area when requested or required.

Consistently completes all linen/laundry poundage on appropriate shift.

Performs an inspection of the residents clothing following the laundering process and reports any damage to supervisor

Assists with training new team members by serving as a resource to new staff.

Assure that all carts, scales, and machines are cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.

Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of two years of high school.

Ability to work in a health care and Continuing Care Retirement Community environment.

Ability to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

Ability to lift, push, pull, and move linen/supplies a minimum of fifty (50) pounds throughout the work day.

Ability to bend, turn, reach over head and below knees throughout work day.

Ability to stand and walk 80% of the work day.

Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics adequately so that the tasks of this position can be fully met, to include the use of supplies and equipment.
