The UK is a leader in the green technologies sector and has become the first country in the world to legislate the goal of reducing emissions to Net Zero by 2050. The UK's Ten Point Plan, published in November 2020, focusses on priorities including advancing offshore wind (OSW), driving the growth of low carbon hydrogen, investing in carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS), to help the UK in its Net Zero journey and support economies globally to tackle climate change. The 2021 UK-India 2030 Forward Action Plan, has laid down the foundation for a joint framework for future relations between the two nations, with work on climate identified as one of the five areas of cooperation. These developments and focus areas have been instrumental in shaping the team's current portfolio and focus sub-sectors in India which includes OSW, green hydrogen, energy storage, smart grids, electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The core focus of the role will be in identifying and delivering export/business opportunities for UK businesses in the Renewable Energy (RE) / clean energy sectors. The job holder will drive and deliver the team's work for their region (West/South) in India and on assigned sectors pan-India. To do so, you will build upon relationships with key stakeholders whilst proactively seeking out new clients and opportunities. You will work collaboratively with colleagues from the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and wider partners in the UK to bring UK companies to India and support them to win business. You will also identify trade barriers in this sector and work collaboratively with the industry and other parts of the Government to resolve those barriers. Your role will involve amplifying the UK government and industry voice in the sector, which will require securing access to the most senior levels within Indian industry and government, leveraging senior colleagues in your location of posting and in the trade and investment teams, as well as across the British High Commission network in India.

You will be a self-starter who can demonstrate long-term objectives; plan and manage a delivery model; and identify, grow and make effective use of stakeholders. You will work with trade and investment colleagues in our South Asia network and elsewhere, with other UK government colleagues, Indian government officials (including states), businesses and other multipliers (trade associations, etc.).
