Job Description
Under the supervision of the Lead Dentist, the Dentist is responsible for providing preventive, restorative, endodontic, oral surgery, and prosthetic dental services to the Department of Corrections, Central Detention Facility, Health Services Division as delineated by UHC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Educates and participates in oral health programs by supervising and instructing dental assistants and patients in the methodology of oral hygiene and dental prophylaxis.
Works collaboratively with other staff members (not limited to other dentists) and/or health agencies to ensure a fully coordinated treatment plan, while maintaining supervision and responsibility for the treatment program
Performs diagnoses and treatment of the full range of oral surgery conditions.
Reviews medical records for background history of patients for advisability of performing indicated dental services and to better understand the patient’s psychiatric, psychological, and or physical condition.
Administers local anesthesia and prescribes pre- and post-operative care.
Participates in professional meetings and keeps abreast of changes and new developments in the field of dentistry as it relates to the dentistry field.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
· Experience with special populations preferred.
· Ability to perform dental procedures efficiently and safely.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
· District of Columbia license to practice dentistry.
· CPR, DEA, and Dispensing Certificates.
