Position Summary:

At Wannamaker Crimmigration, LLC, we're seeking a passionate Associate Attorney - Criminal Defense to play a pivotal role in representing our diverse clientele in both state and federal courts. This position offers the unique opportunity to work closely with immigration counsel, crafting defense strategies that not only defend but also protect the futures of our immigrant clients.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Represent clients across a spectrum of misdemeanor and felony cases in state and federal court, from initial filings to presenting evidence in court and at sentencing.

Take a proactive approach in appeals, motions to withdraw pleas, and post-conviction relief to ensure the best outcomes for clients.

Conduct thorough legal research, analyze complex legal documents, and develop compelling case strategies.

Engage in plea negotiations with prosecutors and attend preliminary court hearings, focusing on achieving results that safeguard our client’s immigration status.

Draft and file critical legal documents utilizing state and federal e-filing systems.

Collaborate with immigration staff attorneys handling cases involving criminal charges.

Offer guidance and support to our talented team of paralegals and legal assistants, ensuring excellence in every piece of work produced.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities:

Proven track record of legal research, case management, and court representation skills.

Demonstrated commitment to the rights and legal challenges facing immigrants in the criminal justice system.

Exceptional analytical, communication, and advocacy skills.

A commitment to meticulousness, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Fluency in Spanish is preferred to serve our diverse client base better.

Supervisory and leadership skills. Ability to lead a team by inspiring others and sharing the firm’s vision.

Excellent time management skills

Able to exercise good judgment

Strong skill level in MS Office Suite/Google Suite, including Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.

Other Requirements:

The ideal candidate must be able to complete all essential duties and physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Education/Experience:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Admission to the Georgia State Bar- Valid License and Current Membership

A minimum of 5 years of legal experience in immigration and criminal law

At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a legal setting, demonstrating effective team management, mentorship, and strategic oversight capabilities.

Some familiarity with immigration law along with prior experience in public service, either as a prosecutor or public defender

A skilled communicator, fluent in Spanish (preferred), ready to connect with and advocate for our diverse clientele.
