Dallas, TX based energy focused advisory/investment banking firm is seeking an experienced Geologist to work with and support technical and commercial A&D teams.
The Energy Investment Banking Group is primarily responsible for developing, structuring and executing a broad range of advisory assignments and financial transactions. Our focus is on the upstream oil & gas sector with expertise in acquisitions and divestitures (A&D), private financings, joint ventures and valuation services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Will lead geoscience efforts for the team, and handle all geoscience related duties in support of A&D evaluation and execution
Will work closely with the engineering, subsurface, and finance team to assist in divestiture mandates
Will work and communicate closely with clients to present data requirements and collate client information while maintaining strict quality controls on geologic evaluations
Will leverage experience to ensure the technical accuracy of all geologic and subsurface related material produced and presented
Will be responsible for the generation of geoscience materials – including maps, cross-sections, regional geologic studies, volumetric work and other exhibits for pitch books, executive summaries/management presentations, and data room presentations
Represents the team in the receipt of hardware, software, and various information from third party service providers, consultants, and contractors
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Functional oil and gas work of experience: including the planning and execution of oil and gas operations
Must have experience and possess the ability to generate high-quality geologic maps at a high level
Must have experience using public data sources (e.g. Enverus and IHS) to leverage into evaluation
Must have experience with reservoir characterization including log interpretation and basic knowledge of petrophysics for volumetric analysis
Ability to work with client’s multidisciplinary team of geoscience professionals including geologist, geophysicists, petrophysicists, GIS professionals, etc.
Must have general graphic design experience and skills to construct presentations and exhibits in PowerPoint
Capability of managing and analyzing large data sets quickly through Spotfire, Tableau, or other software
Basic knowledge of methods and requirements used in the valuation of producing and non-producing minerals and working interest asset types
Basic understanding of lease operating statements, reserve engineering reports, and reserve categories
Proficient in geologic analyses for both conventional and unconventional reservoirs
Candidate must be commercially oriented and understand the fundamentals of cash flow, economics and rate of return, as well as the ability to assess technical risk qualitatively as well as quantitatively
Advanced PC skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint
Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the capability of independent thought and action, and the ability to work with minimal supervision using sound judgment. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization
Strong presentations skills – must be able to present and defend geologic analyses to large groups
Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines in a competent and professional manner
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team setting
Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
Proficiency in IHS PETRA
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Experience in other mapping programs (Geographix, Kingdom, Transform, Canvas, ArcGIS, QGIS, Petrel, etc.)
Direct experience in multiple oil and gas basins in the “Lower 48” of the U.S.
Functional oil and gas experience: including operations, exploration, and development
Ability to understand and write computer programming (Python, Java, C#, R, etc.) especially as it pertains to managing and digesting large data sets
Maintains professional society membership and seeks to serve in visible and/or leadership roles in the local community and national organizations
EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree with a degree in geology from an accredited University is required
Master’s Degree with an emphasis in geology from an accredited University is preferred
5+ years of relevant industry experience working as a Geologist (must be upstream oil & gas focused)
Relevant A&D experience is preferred, however is not required
