Position: Fluoroscopy Radiology Technologist

Reports To: Clinical and Operations Manager

Locations: Main location: 155 White Plains Rd. Tarrytown, NY Other locations: 180 Fort Washington Ave. NY, NY; 51 W. 51st Street,

Schedule: Per diem to cover vacations and call outs

Summary:

Under the direction of a physician, performs all duties associated with obtaining fluoroscopy images during interventional spine procedures in a busy practice; responsible for the care of the patient while in the fluoroscopy suite and pre/post procedure areas. Assist in ancillary staff duties as needed. Lead Fluoro Tech will oversee this position.

This is a day shift; however, the incumbent must be able to work flexible hours. The hours will be majorly dictated by the procedure schedule.

REQUIRED TRAINING: HIPAA, OSHA

Responsibilities:

Positions patient and selects appropriate options to demonstrate cross-sectional anatomy of interest based on accepted X-Ray/fluoroscopy principles and the referring physician’s request.

Assists in maintaining the fluoroscopic image database for reference (i.e. assure all fields are entered in a systematic way on the fluoro-machine). Schedule and arrive procedures in EPIC other systems as needed, transfer images to PACS, troubleshoot connectivity issues as needed.

Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing and archiving of patient records. (Bring up prior images for physician viewing, load MRI discs, save images in Life Image, etc.)

During fluoroscopic down time, assist in ancillary staff duties which may include rooming patients, patient call backs, obtain authorizations, answering phones, and any other duties delegated.

Offers detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answers questions as appropriate within the scope of a fluoroscopy tech. Pre-procedure or post-procedure follow-up patient phone calls.

Observes patient while in the fluoroscopy area for change in status and makes appropriate intervention when necessary.

Identifies and corrects problems as appropriate with all critical occurrences reported to the next level of authority.

Operates and maintains equipment on a daily basis maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data, maintains records required for and participates in inspections if needed.

Assists physician in administering opaque media.

Conforms to all HIPAA, OSHA, Billing Compliance and safety guidelines. Ensure everyone is updated on their radiation safety, keeping the fluoro-suite in compliance with state, hospital and university standards.

Assist in maintaining lead vests.

Position Qualifications/Specifications:

Minimum Education: Associate’s degree

Minimum Requirements: Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology, NYS License, ARRT certified.

Specifications:

Special Training/Skills: Must be able to remain calm in stressful situations. Must display courtesy and empathy toward patients, co-workers and physicians. Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Must have excellent communications skills and maintain confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.

Physical Demands: Must be able to move around freely. Must be able to assist in the lifting of physically compromised patients. Must possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to perform task remotely located to the patient; sits, stands and walks intermittently throughout the day; must stoop and bend in the course of job performance; must lift patients, occasionally move heavy equipment, and put away supplies.

Working Conditions: Works in a medical facility subject to electrical, chemical, magnetic and radiant hazards; lifting hazards.
