Overview:

This position is a .01FTE (casual hours per 2 week pay period). This position works 8-hour shifts.

The University of Minnesota Medical Center is looking for Nursing Station Technicians to join our perianesthesia team. Complete services range from primary care, emergency care and to care of patients with the most complex conditions. Areas of specialization include solid organ (heart, kidney, lung, liver, and pancreas) and blood and marrow transplantation, heart disease and cancer.

Perianesthesia Department, three phases of care:

pre & post has 22 beds providing care for same day surgery patients, inpatients and surgical admits

Post anesthesia care unit (PACU) has 21 beds and cares for 30-50 patients/day

Responsibilities/Job Description:

About the Job

The Nursing Station Technician is a hybrid position consisting of both Nursing Assistant and Health Unit Coordinator roles to deliver direct patient care and administrative duties.

In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork and communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team on a fasted paced unit. Other job duties include:

Patient care such as personal hygiene, vitals, daily activities, repositioning, transporting, and feeding

Maintaining unit desk area functions such as answering phones, processing admissions, discharging and transferring forms, transcribing orders, assembling patient charts and ordering tests

Setting up and maintaining patient rooms

Ordering and stocking of supplies

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

Basic Life Support Certification

Successful candidates will be required to possess an active status on the Nursing Assistant Registry. Student nurses who have completed two semesters of clinicals and will be completing and passing the Nursing Assistant registry exam within 6 months of hire will also be qualified.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience as a Health Unit Coordinator, Nursing Assistant, or other related experience

Candidates must possess exceptional communication skills such as clear speech, ability to read, legible handwriting, and strong computer skills. Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, and hospital procedures is required. A self-starter, who is passionate about creating an exceptional patient experience, will receive top consideration.
