Distinguished Software Architect

Walmart Advanced Systems & Robotics is a rapidly expanding initiative with the objective of revolutionizing the retail landscape through robotics. Our development and implementation of the cutting-edge Alphabot® technology are currently underway, with deployment in stores across North America.

The Distinguished Software Architect will define the software architecture for our next generation multi-robot grocery fulfillment system. The system software spans cloud planning and interface software, on-premises control software, and human-machine interface points. This role is responsible for definition of the long-term software system architecture. This includes collaboration with the Warehouse Management System and other Walmart fulfillment systems, defining interfaces, and message flows. Additionally, this role will work with solution architects and research scientists to map process flows and core algorithms to software architecture.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Minimum BS degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline.

15 years experience software product development, with at least 5 as a software architect.

5 years experience developing high-performance control systems software.

5 years experience developing cloud software and microservice architecture.

Experience developing production Java and C++ software

A clear vision for architecture design.

Great oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:

Experience with robot work planning and routing

Experience working with hardware interfaces

Experience with industrial automation protocols such as MODBUS or SECS/GEM

Experience with Warehouse Control Systems
