About the job

The IaaS Observability and Monitoring (O&M) Engineering team is looking for an Engineer to implement and support enterprise-wide solutions to meet the current and future monitoring needs for all of SAS Institute, Inc.

Contract duration- 6 months

As an Observability and Monitoring Engineer, you will:

Configure infrastructure, network, database, application, log and synthetic monitoring.

Create and support required dashboards with data visualization.

Research new features and integrations in monitoring tools.

Prepare and conduct system and programming tests requiring interfacing of hardware and software.

Work closely with Global Information Security to implement solutions that enhance SAS’ security posture.

Diagnose and resolve user and operational problems.

Provide support to production issues and major incidents.

Interact with other teams for understanding requirements, testing, and implementation.

Identify automation and standardization opportunities in daily tasks.

Enhance monitoring and identify operational gaps to ensure a stability and performance.

Provide software support for assigned products, including installation, maintenance, documentation, customization, and utilization of product features.

Document new and existing O&M solutions for the team and our internal customers.

Determine how new solutions will have implications on operational support and provide processes for mitigation.

Develop automation scripts and configurations to deploy and manage monitoring solutions efficiently.

Follow and promote monitoring best practices across the organization.

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience in a Site Reliability Engineer or related role.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

Strong knowledge of Datadog and other monitoring tools.

Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, API, Bash, PowerShell).

Working knowledge of ServiceNow ITOM Event Management and ITIL concepts.

Experience with container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Familiarity with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and modern application development practices.

Willingness to be a member of an on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Zabbix and other monitoring tools.

Certification in relevant monitoring technologies

Knowledge of AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) concepts.

Working knowledge on DevOps, continuous deployment and monitoring.

Knowledge of other monitoring tools such as Grafana, ELK stack, New Relic, etc.

General knowledge of networking and firewalls.
