Job Description

We are seeking a full-time (Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5PM) Medical Assistant in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians and other medical providers with patient care by handling patient phone calls, clinic activities such as rooming in, taking medical history, providing test results, scheduling patient appointments and procedures. The role will also be responsible for updating EMR with patient - charts, information, results as well as proactive communications with the physicians, medical providers and office staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; checking vital signs; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting providers as needed; charting; phone triage; medication administration; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information; prescription verifications with physicians orders.

Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; patient check-in and check-out; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.

Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.

Travel to nearby satellite office locations may be required.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.

Experience:

Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.

Requirements:

Entry level (1-4 years experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.

Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with need for additional supervision.
