Museum Facilities Attendant

Position Overview:

The Museum Facilities Attendant is primarily responsible for the safety and protection of visitors and exhibits, and for the general maintenance, security, and appearance of Museum facilities.

Duties And Responsibilities:

This position provides a wide variety of security and support services to Museum visitors and staff. Duties include, but are not limited, to:

Ensure that visitors have a positive experience at the Museum by providing basic directions and information about the exhibits and facilities.

Greet guests and answer routine questions about Museum programs, regulations, and operating hours.

Actively monitor and control galleries, reception, and public spaces of the Museum to safeguard exhibits and facilities against damage, vandalism, fire, theft, unlawful entry, or other disturbances.

Maintain surveillance of visitor parking areas and report unauthorized or suspicious vehicles and activity.

Assist staff and volunteers with enforcing Museum guidelines and regulations.

Complete written incident reports as necessary and submit to the Museum’s Facilities Manager.

Assist with implementing the Museum’s disaster preparedness plan and evacuation of the public and staff.

Assist with ensuring visitor safety in the event of an injury, accident, or emergency.

Open and close Museum facilities following established hours and security procedures, including turning off lights and equipment and politely telling visitors that it is time to leave.

Assist staff with closing off spaces and preparing galleries and meeting rooms to receive visitors for special exhibitions, meetings, and private functions.

Assist staff with installing, cleaning, and maintaining exhibits, interpretive panels, and exhibit caseworks.

Perform minor landscaping work to maintain the exterior appearance of Museum properties.

Perform routine inspections of galleries, storage, and work areas and report safety, security, and maintenance issues.

Escort guests and special visitors into restricted areas of the Museum as directed.

Assist with routine custodial care, such as mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning fabric, glass and plexiglass surfaces.

Clean and maintain all visitor and public spaces, exhibit galleries, staff offices, meeting rooms, hallways, snack and common areas, boardroom, stairs, and elevators.

Ensure that visitors do not take photographs or use flash equipment in areas where these activities are not permitted.

Sweep and mop tiled floors, strip, wax, and polish floors as directed.

Clean and service all restrooms, sanitize toilet bowls, sinks and countertops, and replenish hand soap, toilet rolls, and paper towel dispensers.

Dust railings, fans, window blinds, and light fixtures.

Spot clean spills on carpets and tile floors.

Replace light bulbs as needed.

Remove trash and replace plastic liners in all trash receptacles.

Pick up litter and other debris throughout the Museum facility, grounds, and parking areas.

Clean and maintain all outdoor and patio areas.

Safely move heavy objects, furniture, display cases, and collections pieces as directed.

Set up, arrange, and remove tables, chairs, and decorations to prepare Museum rooms for meetings, special events, and private functions.

Assist with rodent and pest control.

Assist with minor building maintenance and repair projects, such as hanging pictures, painting and patching walls.

Mix water and cleaning solutions according to product specifications.

Monitor building security and safety by ensuring that doors are locked after operating hours and that electrical appliances are turned off or do not create a hazard.

Raise and lower flags, as directed.

Promptly report maintenance concerns, issues, or potential safety hazards to the Museum’s Facilities Manager.

Minimum Qualifications And Requirements:

Must be eighteen years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent with at least two (2) years of prior work experience in customer service, security, or public safety.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

Working knowledge of standard health, safety, and security policies and procedures.Company Description
