Salary: $13-$16 Hourly

We are seeking a Program Assistant/ Tutor to support our Afterschool Tutoring, and Parent Partnership programs for 10-18 hours per week. Preferred hours are Monday-Thursday, 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Assists in preparing, teaching, and evaluating assigned instructional courses

Develops supplemental teaching material and strategies to help students practice

Support the Afterschool Teacher with on-site programming needs

Assists the staff with all communication to and from the parents in English and Spanish

Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.

Supports the collection and input of data for all programs

Effectively responds to stakeholder inquiries, questions, and comments

Prepares and distributes program documentation and details

Creates and/or updates class syllabi or other communications as needed

Performs other relevant duties as assigned

Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds

Must provide own Laptop

Reviewing classroom or curricula topics and assignments

Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic tasks

Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom

Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions

Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics

Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides

Conducting practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation

Providing students positive and constructive feedback

Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate

Building meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds

Instructing students both in person and over video chat

Diagnosing student needs through active listening techniques and questioning strategies

Recognizing different learning styles and student preferences

Designing differentiated learning goals

Staying up to date with the school curriculum

Experience or skill effectively exchanging and understanding information, verbally or in writing.

Skill or experience teaching or instructing others, typically students in a classroom setting. May occur in person or via remote modes of communication.

Skill or experience providing customized assistance to students looking to improve comprehension of a particular subject. Implies specialized knowledge of the material being studied.

Knowledge of or experience with providing educational instruction and support to children and youth.

Skill or experience providing care and supervision for children while also providing them with educational development.

Experience interacting with children in a variety of roles, functions, and environments.

Experience working with students in an educational capacity, such as teaching or tutoring.

Each role with LaAmistad is part of a strong team. To support the team, you will likely be required to walk quickly across varying distances on our campuses, lift and carry supplies and other materials, push heavy rolling carts, and climb multiple flights of stairs as well as have adequate hearing and vision to successfully navigate the requirements of the position.

Qualifications

Bilingual native Spanish speaker preferred

Fluency in Spanish and English (writing, listening, and speaking)

Must have a high school diploma or GED. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience with parent coaching is preferred

Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within diverse families

Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as during parent/or community events

Experience with Microsoft Office applications such as Word/Excel/PowerPoint

Must have own transportation and hold a valid driver’s license

Commitment to the program’s goals and mission

**This position is temporary, part-time, and is for one school year.**
