About the team:

We exist, simply to make Luno the simplest, fastest, and most trusted place for customers to buy crypto with their local currency.

We achieve our goal in two ways:

Firstly, we integrate with payment methods our customers want and have access to. Our Analysts work closely with Countries, Engineering, Product and several other teams within Luno to build and iterate the best customer experience. We are obsessed with the best, constantly monitoring our customer behaviour, feedback, metrics, industry trends and challenging the status quo.

Secondly, we manage our global payment processing with world-class Operations teams based in South Africa, Malaysia and the United States. These teams' core focus is the safeguarding of our customers’ funds, ensuring a frictionless and seamless flow of their funds 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. We actively monitor our global processes to make sure that no customers are left behind and strive for automation on our journey to one billion customers. Furthermore, we earn and maintain our customers' trust by building a robust control environment.

The role in a nutshell:

You will form part of our greater Activate Fleet, consisting of Operations, Engineering and Product. The role reports to Cornel smit - Head of payments at Luno.

Your mission will be:

Review monthly reconciliations performed by the Operations Team and provide training on areas of improvement

Document and review control weaknesses and vulnerabilities, preparing product requests, tasks and timelines for the various improvements

Own the resolution of reporting discrepancies and anomalies within our bank accounts and provider balances

Drive automation and improvement of financial reporting and operational tasks within the Payments Fleet

Assist with forecasting and modelling of commercial terms with providers, as well as internal fee change proposals

Review internal and external communication processes and identify areas of improvement

Track and report losses incurred due to errors within the Payments function or customer corrections

Review delivery of banks and providers against Service Level Agreements and resolve any deviations with the Legal and Countries Teams

Oversee the launch of new coins and liquidity pairs within the Payments function

Has a good understanding of core function (Financial aspects of Payment Operations)

Works closely with Internal Audit, Risk and Continuous Improvement Teams on regular reviews of processes within Payments

Work closely with the relevant business stakeholders to understand their data needs

Determine the data needed to address the business needs while ensuring it is of the highest quality, reliable and trusted

Interpret trends, patterns in data and provide the business with actionable insights

Collaborate with analytical data engineers to design and build any pipelines/data models needed to support analytical and reporting needs

Design metrics to help access how the business in performing day to day

Build visually compelling dashboards that communicate insights to stakeholder (often non technical) to allow data informed decision making

A little about you:

Professional experience in accounting, reconciliations or payment processing

Proven experience driving improvements to business processes

A minimum of 2 years experience in the data space

Experience working with business intelligence platform such as Looker, Tableau, DataBricks, PowerBi or similar

A passion for storytelling and data visualisation

Refined exploratory data analysis skills

Data science or similar qualification

You are passionate about data analytics and related disciplines

You can leverage data analytics to innovate and create out-of-the-box solutions

You can gather and synthesise facts, theories, trends, patterns, inferences, and key issues in complex and variable situations

You are intellectually curious and have the persistence to find answers to difficult questions

You can diagnose problems using problem-solving tools and techniques

You have strong interpersonal and communication skills

You communicate technical concepts to non-experts in simple and helpful terms

You are a team player, enthusiastic about growing and developing others

You can handle uncertain and ambiguous scenarios

You keep abreast of developments and emerging trends in data

You are familiar with data governance principles and best practices

Experience in a high transactional volume environment preferred

A South African work permit if not a South African citizen
