Job Description

Our Client is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join their construction company based in Chicago. As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, and preparing financial reports. Your role will be crucial in ensuring the smooth financial operations of our construction business.

Responsibilities:

Financial Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the construction company, including recording daily transactions, expenses, invoices, receipts, and payments.

Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, including issuing invoices, tracking payments, processing vendor bills, and ensuring timely payments to suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.

Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank statement reconciliations to verify the accuracy of recorded transactions and ensure that the company's financial records align with bank statements.

Payroll Processing: Collaborate with the HR department to accurately process payroll for construction company employees, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, wage laws, and company policies.

Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports, such as profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and general ledger reconciliations, to provide accurate financial insights to management.

Expense Management: Monitor and analyze construction-related expenses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and work closely with project managers to track project expenses and budget adherence.

Tax Compliance: Assist in gathering and organizing financial data for tax purposes and work with external accountants or tax advisors to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.

Financial Analysis: Conduct regular analysis of financial data, identify trends, and provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency and profitability.

Documentation and Filing: Maintain organized and secure financial files and documents, ensuring compliance with record-keeping requirements.

Software Proficiency: Utilize accounting software and tools to manage financial transactions, generate reports, and streamline bookkeeping processes.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper) are a plus.

Experience: Prior experience as a bookkeeper, preferably in the construction industry, is highly desirable. Familiarity with construction-specific accounting practices, such as job costing and project billing, is advantageous.

Strong Financial Acumen: Proficient understanding of bookkeeping principles, financial statements, and accounting practices. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is essential.

Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in recording financial transactions and maintaining financial records.

Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced construction environment.

Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with team members, vendors, and external stakeholders.

Technology Proficiency: Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet applications.

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and propose solutions.

Integrity and Confidentiality: High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality and discretion.

Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to changing accounting practices, industry regulations, and company procedures.

Pay Details: $60,000.00 to $80,000.00 per year
