TITLE: Mechanical Design Engineer / Design Tooling Engineer

LOCATION: Merritt Island, FL

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 6 month contract-can extend up to 24 months and/or convert to FTE

Multiple levels open and rates vary on level (Design Engineer I, II, III, IV)

Actual position starting level and title will be determined based on assessment of qualifications

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Averro is seeking multiple mechanical Design Tooling Engineers, of any level, for one of our exciting space exploration companies! You will specifically be responsible for the design, analysis and tooling through development for space launch vehicles!

Design and manage tooling through development and build life cycle to support production.

Perform analysis (Hand Calculations & FEA) to support tooling design

Create Statement of Works ( SOW) for tooling to be designed and built by external vendors.

Design of Concept CAD models using PTC Creo.

Review and approve drawings for drawing standards and manufacturability.

Develop and approve design specifications, performance specifications, fabrication specifications, acceptance test procedures, and maintenance plans, for development of GSE.

Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle (requirements gathering through delivery and acceptance) to ensure GSE is functionally correct and meets requirements set forth in specifications.

Represent GSE considerations in manufacturing, operational, and program technical reviews

Oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, and installation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor Degree

Design Engineer I: 0-2 years experience

Design Engineer II: 3+ years of experience

Design Engineer III: 5-7+ years of experience

Senior Design Engineer: 10+ years of experience with design and integration of mechanical systems (mechanisms, power transmission components, hydraulics, fluids systems, etc.), electrical systems/components, control systems, support frames/structures, and/or lifting fixtures.

Design of GSE for production, manufacturing, and testing of launch vehicles and launch vehicle support systems.

Proven ability to drive complex projects to completion

Experience with CAD modeling and drawings in PTC Creo.

Experience with revision control and data configuration in Windchill.

DESIRED SKILLS:

FEA Analysis and hand calculations of structural and mechanical components.

Experience working on aerospace development programs, production lines, or field operations in both design and hands-on roles; experience on commercial development programs a plus.

Experience with design specification, procurement, operation, and maintenance of GSE.

Experience with multiple CAD packages, Catia, SolidWorks, etc.

Hands on fabrication, assembly, or maintenance experience.
