OPPORTUNITY

Our client is a family-owned general contracting company based in Dallas who focus on commercial maintenance and installation. Projects range in size from $2-$35M+, and our client provides design/build for residential, general contracting, and construction project management across the Southwest. This is a fast-growing company with an exciting firm culture that values integrity, loyalty, and leadership.

Reporting directly to firm ownership, this Controller position is a hands-on role opportunity for highly motivated and detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of running financial operations within the construction space. As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the firm and will work diligently to mitigate risk to ensure the accuracy of the firm’s financial results and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

SCOPE OF WORK

Lead month-end close processes to ensure the timely and precise preparation of financial statements. These will also include the review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and the preparation of financial reporting deliverables to firm leadership.

Work in tandem with internal HR team to oversee financial operations related to W2s, 1099s, tax withholdings, 401k and HR benefits administration, and payroll processing (bi-weekly cadence)

Partner with company leadership and internal decision makers to set operational standards and drive financial compliance initiatives.

Manage the approval of contracts with vendors.

Maintain all existing banking relationships and oversee daily/monthly bank reconciliations.

On a daily basis: oversee all financial operations related to A/R, A/P, positive pay, cash flow analysis, and GL functions to enhance financial accuracy and operational efficiency.

On a monthly basis: review GL, prepare financial statements, and execute month-end close

On a yearly basis: Prepare statements for review by audit team and oversee tax return obligations.

This is a hands-on role, and the Controller may also have responsibilities related to the service of legal process monitoring, monitoring of intercompany transactions, risk insurance administration, GC and business license renewals, and secretary of state registrations, as well as any other firm needs not explicitly outlined in this job description.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and CPA certification

8+ years of accounting experience, with at least 4 in a leadership role

2+ years of recent work experience in the construction industry and an ability to understand the financial nuances present within a construction firm.
