John Adams Academy is seeking an In-house Legal Counsel to coordinate and provide expertise, information, assistance and recommendations to management and administrators on legal issues impacting all aspects of school and organizational operations:

This position interprets and provides guidance to all Departments regarding Board policies, administrative regulatory compliance, and federal and state laws including, but not limited to, the Education Code, Brown Act, Government Code, Special Education Laws, California Civil Right Department (CCRD), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Federal and State employment laws.

The Chief Legal Counsel will provide input and lead investigations, respond to, and represent JAA to determine legal and factual basis for proceedings that include but are not limited to EEOC/CCRD, Office of Civil Rights (OCR), Department of Labor Standards and Enforcement complaints, and California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). This position will also represent JAA in all legal matters.

Education, Experience and Credentials/Licenses

Any combination equivalent to: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, active member in good standing of the State Bar of California, and three years increasingly responsible experience working in a school district or a law firm that provides legal services to school districts.

Preference for coursework in educational laws and regulations, administrative laws and regulations, labor laws and regulations, or public agency administration.
