Position: Solar Project Manager

Reporting to: Director of Construction

Location: Alberta and Ontario

Position Summary:

The Solar Project Manager oversees site-based project management for our utility-scale solar projects.

Position Requirements:

Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel

Ability to travel with a valid passport (Canada and USA)

Primary Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management Accountabilities:

Ensures excellence in project management and delivery, aligning with client expectations.

Maintains and strengthens client relationships throughout project lifecycles.

Planning:

Manages project plans, including kick-off, updates, and close-out meetings.

Secures and manages project-required construction permits.

Maintains project schedules from preconstruction to close-out.

Budget and Contracts:

Allocates budget, forecasts costs, and manages procurement and materials.

Manages contracts and change orders, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and communicating relevant contractual obligations to our stakeholders including subcontractors.

Leadership:

Supports recruitment and hiring processes, fostering outstanding talent.

Provides direction, guidance, and coaching to discipline managers and project teams.

Ensures consistent implementation of established processes and communication lines on-site.

QA/QC:

Manages quality control program implementation, ensuring consistency and adherence to plans.

Environment:

Provides the required documents, drawings, and other forms to active projects for monitoring and maintaining the EMS.

Supports developing projects to complete all required permitting activities before commencement.

Ensures training is provided and certifications are maintained on field staff to comply with EMS requirements.

Safety:

Demonstrates and promotes a safety and quality-oriented attitude.

Reinforces safe practices and corrects “at-risk” behaviors as needed.

Ensures understanding and adherence to standard operating procedures by all site team members.

Operates company assigned vehicle in a safe manner in all types of road and weather conditions.

Other:

Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled, or expected.

Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct, and Company Policies & Procedures.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED required.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent preferred.

Any combination of education and work experience (2 years’ work experience is equivalent to 1 year of education) required.

3 years experience in Project Management required.

2+ years experience in Solar EPC preferred.

Valid Driver’s License Required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in estimating work efforts, change orders, and project permits.

Strong leadership, team-building, and mentoring abilities.

Sound decision-making skills and understanding of QA/QC processes.

Familiarity with environmental concepts and permit requirements.

Knowledge of project finances, contract management, and subcontractor/vendor/materials management.

Proficiency in construction drawing review, quantity takeoff, and engineering management.

Excellent communication, presentation, and reporting skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera 6), and job costing or accounting software.

Functional competencies include building strategic partnerships, accountability, customer focus, system thinking, and excellence.
