Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Associate/Assistant Director of Nursing, plans, implements, directs, supervises, and evaluates the delivery of age-appropriate nursing care to assigned patients, in collaboration with the Head Nurse and in accordance with established policies, procedures, professional organizations, regulatory agency standards, and in a manner that embraces safety, quality, and efficiency.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates knowledge of unit case mix: common diagnoses, needs, and treatment modalities
Ensures staffing coverage of care districts and equitable distribution of staffing and material resources
Performs patient care; assigns patient care based on scope of practice and skills competency of the staff
Ensures completion of delegated assignments: admission assessment, tour assessment, pain assessments, plan of care updates, and patient education
Collaborates with unit Manger to ensure timely staffing schedule and ensure schedule timely posting.
Assists HN/ manager with periodic staff meetings
Collaborates with the care team and the admitting office in ensuring patient flow and care activities: admission, discharges, transfers; ensures the use of appropriate handoff report on patient transfers
Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds; addresses patient care concerns during team rounds.
Demonstrates competency in operating unit equipment; ensures equipment are maintained as per policy.
Communicates patient's progress/issues using handoff and escalation policies.
Takes active role in Unit Pl activity; participates in hospital-wide PI initiatives
Assists with enforcing regulatory agency standards that guide care in the assignment specialty
Participates in new recruitment interview as well a in mentoring and coaching of new staff and students
Serves as patient/family advocate; provides age-appropriate education to patients/family
Demonstrates commitment to continued professional development, including Specialty Board Certification.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. Six (6) months of experience as a registered nurse.
