Job SummaryUnder direction, participates in activities involved in maintaining Tulsa County Fleet vehicles by performing the following duties.

Job Description

All candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion, or initial hiring into a DOT/safety- sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or requires a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist with the inspection, adjustment and replacement of necessary units and related parts including valves, pistons, brakes, main bearing assemblies, and cooling, ignitions, and fuel systems of gasoline powered engines of vehicles.

• Assist with the repair and overhaul of transmissions, differentials, and front and rear-end assemblies, air compressors, hydraulic systems and other related equipment.

• Assist with the general repair and maintenance of gasoline equipment and vehicles.

• Change tires, oil filters, and air filters.

• Monitor air pressure in tires, fluid levels, and windshield wipers.

• Clean interior and exterior of vehicles.

• Oversee and inspect the work performed by outside vendors.

• Respond quickly to emergency situations, summoning additional assistant as needed.

• Maintain safe working conditions; identify and correct or report unsafe conditions in work areas.

• Snow removal, sand bagging, and cleaning of properties.

• Complete and fill out all assigned worker orders and assigned documents.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Skill in changing tires, oil, oil filters, and air filters; in checking fluid levels; and in cleaning interior and in cleaning interior and exterior of vehicles.

Knowledge of safety procedures associated with gasoline powered equipment and vehicles; of automotive repair equipment; and of automotive fluids.

Ability to use automotive repair equipment; to read and write; to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; to drive a vehicle; and to perform simple math.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Automotive Diagnostic software.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and over three months full-time paid employment in an automotive technician/mechanic position.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
