General Purpose:

Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc. empowers people with disabilities and other barriers to employment to gain independence through the power of work. We are seeking an Associate Grant Writer to join a growing Development team. This person will support all aspects of grant writing and reporting.

The Associate Grant Writer will support the VP of Program Innovation in: researching and reviewing funding opportunities; stewardship of foundation and corporate contacts; writing grant proposals and reports; and maintaining a database. You should have strong research, writing, and analytical skills.

This new position will join a collaborative team who are passionate about Goodwill’s mission and committed to the learning and growth of the Associate Grant Writer.

Essential Functions:

Conduct prospect research and prioritize applications based on organizational goals and needs.

Draft grant applications including letters of inquiry, case statements, full proposals, thank you letters, and reports.

Manage grant applications including on time reports.

Support with creating and sharing stewardship materials.

Work collaboratively with Mission leadership and other support departments (HR, Finance, Data Analytics) to complete proposals, reports, and other grant and program related items.

Support the Development team as needed.

Qualifications:

HS Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Internship and/or relevant work experience preferred but not required.

Skills Required:

You must know how to use Microsoft products proficiently; experience with database management and/or Raiser’s Edge preferred.

You must be a skilled writer who has excellent verbal and written communication skills.

You will be Internet savvy, especially when it comes to research.

You are a curious and self-motivated team member with a natural ability to meet deadlines while also maintaining flexibility in a fast-paced work environment.

You enjoy working independently and are able to appropriately respond to feedback.

You are interested in how non-profits work, grant writing, and the mission of Goodwill.

You have a sense of humor, are a team player, and are excited to learn and grow at Goodwill.

Special Working Conditions:

The Development team maintains a hybrid schedule. You are expected to be in our Downtown Brooklyn office at least 2-3 days/week and have the flexibility to work remotely.
