Job Description
The Non-QM Mortgage Underwriter candidate will have an extensive background making manual credit decisions on a broad spectrum of loans on a delegated basis to include experience working with DSCR, Bank Statement, and other ALT doc type loans.
Key Responsibilities
· Responsible for manually assessing the risk of a loan and making a credit decision based on the quality of the data in the loan file
· Applies all internal underwriting guidelines, investor underwriting guidelines and requirements as well as federal regulations to the decision process to ensure high loan quality
· Determine specific investor program requirements and ensure credit underwriting review meets investor requirements
· Perform detailed analysis and review of various appraisal types to determine if property meets investor guidelines
· Review credit documents for accuracy and completeness
· Partner with the Production and Operations teams to ensure high quality loans
· Communicate with loan officers, brokers and processors to create a positive customer experience
· Provide feedback for pre-closing as well as post-closing quality control audits in a timely manner
· Willingness to provide alternative solutions when needed
· Adhere to all applicable internal NPI policy and procedures and protect the confidentiality of borrower information
Qualifications
· Minimum of 5 years recent Non-QM and/or Portfolio type underwriting experience
· Recent experience underwriting alternative income documentation such as DSCR, bank statements or assets-based underwriting
· Minimum of 5 years-experience with complex borrower business structures, including multiple REO and multiple self-employed entities and various entity types
· Recent experience underwriting Investor or Business Purpose loan programs
· Thorough understanding of Agency and Appendix Q underwriting guidelines
· Exposure to underwriting at a national level and in multiple markets
· Strong communication skills and ability to interact with brokers, processors, sales teams, post-closing, QC and operations.
· Conventional Agency, FHA DE and/or VA LAPP/SAR underwriting add ons are a plus
