Position Summary

D G MEDINA CONSTRUCTION LLC is seeking a General Superintendent. The General Superintendent has the ownership and responsibility for all field operations on the project including site safety, schedule, self-performed work (if required), quality, subcontractor field coordination, logistics, labor cost, and productivity. These responsibilities should result in a timely and profitable project completion. The General Superintendent has the responsibility to collaborate with the Project Director, Project Representatives or Foremen and Project Manager/Coordinator and is responsible for keeping them accurately and fully informed of the field status of the project, particularly regarding cost, schedule, quality, safety, and problem issues. The General Superintendent will direct all Foremen on the project and is expected to take a leadership role in the training and mentoring of all field employees. This position requires no travel out of the Houston Metropolitan area.

REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or bachelor’s degree.

A minimum of 10-15 years of experience in municipal civil construction.

Minimum of 5 years as a Foreman or Superintendent.

Minimum of 5 years as a General Foreman.

Ability to communicate effectively to convey information.

Must be proficient in reading and understanding project specific documents.

Must be able to organize records and prepare work and time reports.

Must be able to understand and efficiently follow directions.

Must be able to work under pressure and within established timelines.

Must be knowledgeable of safety procedures and practices.

Must be accustomed to working outdoors and in all weather conditions.

Must be able to perform physical activities that may require climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending and handling materials, equipment and tools.

Must pass pre-employment drug screen and E-Verify.

Must hold a valid driver's license with a clean record.

While each assignment varies, major specific duties of the General Superintendent on any size project may include:

Day to Day Supervision of all on-going projects and site visits.

Must be present to the shop on a daily basis to communicate with foremen and superintendent(s), to organize and assign crews, tools, and equipment.

· Ensure that superintendents are turning in timesheets correctly and on time, review and approve daily production reports.

· Assist with projects while foreman is not on the job.

Assist the Estimating department in new bidding opportunities.

Ensure all Civil Work (dirt work, concrete, asphalt and underground, etc.) Reviews and logistics plans are done for the project.

Lead and monitor work planning process. All self-performed and Subcontractors’ trade activities and schedules.

Coordinate with the project manager in development of productivity reports and take-offs/ quantities for ordering materials. Assist with change orders, subcontractor change orders, billings, RFI s, and submittals.

Develop a detailed construction schedule and two week look-ahead schedule updates and reviews.

Manage superintendents in charge of labor force to achieve optimum performance and productivity.

Review, understand and monitor; material, equipment budgets, and negotiate material purchases as needed.

Coordinate rentals and purchases to maximize yard usage.

Review and coordinate billings with other project staff to assure accurate accounting and billing of rentals and material purchases.

Consistently monitor project costs (labor, materials, and equipment) and identify opportunities for improvement/savings and problem areas which may result in cost overruns.

Review with Project Manager and/or Project Director possible solutions to correct or mitigate negative trends on costs.

Develop and maintain a working relationship with owners, engineers, and inspectors.

Provide leadership for the quality program on the projects.

Provide leadership in the safety and accident prevention programs. Responsible for project safety and conforming to OSHA regulations.

Continue and participate in Weekly Toolbox Safety Meetings and perform regular job-site inspections.

Attend and or schedule subcontractor meetings with superintendent(s).

Coordinate, encourage and monitor the training and development of Field Staff Members working directly for the Superintendent.

Review and enforce subcontractor contracts, purchase orders, change orders and back charges.

Responsible for implementing and reporting for SWPP regulations on a project site.

Review and provide the final Shop Drawing for each project and close out documents.

Responsible for taking photo documentation of significant project site events and weekly progress photos. Photos to be submitted to Project Manager weekly.

Provide all injury/ accidents reports to Project Manager immediately.
