Job Summary:

Drive a truck or van with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs. or more OR a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 lbs. or more, towing trailers/vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds GVWR primarily to deliver or pick up merchandise or to deliver materials within a specified area. May require use of automatic routing or location software. May load and unload truck.

Working member of emergency response team for spills of oil, petroleum products, hazardous and non-hazardous materials, industrial work, vacuum truck operations, biohazard clean-ups or other responses as directed by your supervisor.

Due to the nature of the emergency response, employee is expected to have flexibility in work schedule including weekends and 24hr on call status. Overtime may be expected due to the nature of the job.

Materials removed may include asbestos found in pipe lagging, ceilings and floors or other hazardous materials.

Essential Function:

Ensure health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times. Follow all State, Federal, local, OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations.

Check vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights and brakes, job tools, drum dolly, pallet jack, load locks in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition. Perform all pre-trip and post trip inspections daily, recording the results on the required documentation and turn-in in the designated procedure.

Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.

Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.

Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, and telephones to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.

Load and unload trucks, vans, etc.

Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.

Be on time to work each day and all jobs. Call your supervisor each day to receive job assignment for the next day. If you do not work on Friday but you do work on Monday, you must call your supervisor Friday for your Monday job assignment. Do not come to work not knowing what you are supposed to be doing. It is your responsibility to contact your supervisor.

Answer all your work phone at all times regardless of on call status.

Maintain all assigned CBI equipment to a high state of readiness. Any small on–the spot corrections and minor mechanical corrections such as burnt out lights, mud flap replacement, windshield wiper replacement, etc. is the responsibility of the driver. All uncorrected deficiencies must be reported on the vehicle inspection report and all corrections will be made by CBI mechanics.

Present a positive image of CBI to all clients by wearing the company issued uniform at all times in a neat and orderly fashion. Properly wear and employ all required safety equipment when loading and offloading in facilities and on job sites.

Ensure all safety procedures are in place when transferring petroleum products (i.e. grounding, bonding, no smoking, etc.) and when loading unloading other cargo to and from dry vans. Cargo securement, chocked wheels, safety cones, etc… as appropriate.

In case of an accidental discharge, know CBI SOP for spills.

Review all paperwork PRIOR to leaving for a job to ensure that questions may be addressed and all special equipment required may be acquired for a successful job.

Review all manifests to ensure paperwork is correct PRIOR to leaving for the job and PRIOR to getting on the road. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure all paperwork is correctly filled out. Any DOT violations due to improper manifesting are totally the driver’s responsibility.

Remain with truck at all times during loading and unloading procedures. It is not the responsibility of plant personnel to monitor the truck during loading and off-loading procedures. Any spills or overweight problems associated with loading or off-loading procedures related to the truck and its equipment is solely the driver’s responsibility.

Collect and complete all paperwork relevant to the work assigned and turn in at the end of the day.

You are responsible for understanding on-call procedures. You are responsible for responding to any emergencies if called. In addition, must be aware of who the on-call manager is during on-call week. It is the responsibility of the employee to know when scheduled with on call and the on-call manager.

You will be subject to CBI, local, State, Federal and CBI customer Drug testing policies.

You MUST maintain a valid driver’s license and medical card appropriate to the class of work you do for CBI.

CBI employees are expected to work outdoors and weather conditions vary widely. You are expected to be adaptable to weather conditions.

Customer service skills

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CDL Class “A”or ”B”, HAZMAT, Tanker endorsements are mandatory.

Willingness to travel and the flexibility for long hours are essential to the position.

Proof of all certifications and licenses is mandatory

Current DOT & TWIC identification

Clean driving record and ability to obtain Port identification cards.

Must be physically fit
